Continue ReadingI didn’t start writing for Prep Girls Hoops until after all of the major AAU tournaments and circuits had already concluded for the year. That’s okay. It forced me to start from scratch. Sure, I missed out on seeing some of the most highly touted prospects in Texas, but many of those prospects have already established themselves in the state. Their recruiting profiles are readily available, and I’ll have plenty of opportunities to see them play during the high school season.
I went to a bunch of local tournaments this summer. I’m glad I did, because I found a ton of girls who I believe aren’t receiving the exposure and attention they deserve. Now that the summer is coming to an end and the new school year is in full swing, I’ve put together a list of the players who really impressed me over the past few months. I’ve gone into more detail on most of these players in my previous articles, but I wanted to further highlight some of these under the radar prospects. Here’s part one:
Mollie Daniel – 2019 5’7 PG (Platinum – Collins) Martin’s Mill HS (ETBU student-athlete) – One of the most poised players I saw this summer. She has great court vision and shoots the three ball well. Daniel has two Texas state championships to her name. Her experience playing in big games will allow her to contribute from day one at East Texas Baptist University.
Molly Kaiser Molly Kaiser 6'2" | PG Saginaw | 2020 State TX – 2020 5’8 G (Nike Texas Select) Saginaw HS – Kaiser was easily one of my favorite players to watch. I firmly believe she belongs on our 2020 rankings list. I’d be hard pressed to find 100 girls who can score as easily as Kaiser does. She can score at all three levels. Her mid-range game is deadly.
Asia Parker – 2020 6’0 G/F (Rose City Lady Warriors) John Tyler HS – I love her game. Parker can play any position one through four. She’s strong, smart, and can do it all on offense. Parker scores, passes, and rebounds at a high level. In the era of positionless basketball, coaches should be lining up to get a look at this point forward.
Gabby Robinson – 2020 5’3 PG (Cy Fair Elite 16U) Naaman Forest HS – Robinson is an athletic pass-first point guard. She sees the floor well and likes to push the ball in transition. If you surround her with shooters like Cy Fair Elite has, she can do a lot of damage.
Caroline Morgan – 2021 5’5 G (GTE) Celina HS – Morgan can hit threes of the catch or off the dribble. She can also get to rim and finish through contact. Despite being the best scorer on her team, she still plays unselfish basketball. I like her best at the two-spot because it allows her to show off her shooting ability.
Be on the lookout for Part 2 of my Summer Summary around this time next week. I’ll be focusing on players from the classes of 2022, 2023, and 2024.
