I went through a number of criteria such as motor, flashiness, physicality, and skill as well as just being a fun player to watch. The 17th article in a series of 73 highlights the ten 4A players who I think you need to watch this winter, in no particular order. Tomorrow I’ll have 10 5A players who you have to see this season.
Katie Keitges – 5’8 PG – 2020 – Knoxville
Keitges has range as soon as she crosses the half-court line. She is an electric scorer and you can be sure that she’ll have the ball in her hands a lot this upcoming season. She’s going to score a lot and is must watch basketball. Committed to Omaha.
Kayba Laube – 5’9 SG – 2020 – Marion
Laube is the best shooter in the state. She has a consistent release and a quick one, too. Laube is so skilled with the ball in her hands that she can either get to the rim or step back for an easy jumper. She’ll be looking for a big senior campaign. Committed to Northern Iowa.
Caitlynn Daniels – 5’7 PG – 2020 – Xavier
Daniels is a small point guard but she makes up for her size with her shooting ability and aggression. She is a very solid passer and can fit the ball in the tight windows. Daniels is the full package and brings energy every night. Committed to UAB.
Avery Fried – 5’11 SF – 2021 – Bondurant-Farrar
Fried is one of the most versatile players in the state. She can stretch it out and shoot the jumper but she also holds the ability to play all over the floor. A very skilled wing, Fried is looking to have a big junior year to impress college coaches.
Riley Wright – 5’11 SF – 2021 – Marion
Wright had a great summer and she is looking to carry that over this season. She has the ability to play any spot on the floor that she wants and presents a mismatch at that spot. Wright is a very solid contributor on both ends and is so fun to watch. Committed to Northern Iowa.
Grace Boffeli – 6′ PF – 2020 – North Scott
Boffeli is one of the most efficient players in the state and can score from anywhere in the paint. It doesn’t matter if double and triple teams come as she’ll still score. She took over the state finals and has one of the best motors in the state. Committed to Northern Iowa.
Abbie Draper – 6’1 PF – 2020 – Waverly-Shell Rock
Draper, much like almost everyone else on this list, is a versatile post player. Draper can be a force on the block but she also plays really well in transition. Love her ability to run the floor and distribute/score the basketball. One of the top 2021’s in the state.
Ava Hawthorne – 5’11 PG – 2022 – Gilbert
Hawthorne was a known commodity coming into her freshman year and she didn’t disappoint. A very strong lead guard Hawthorne can shoot it and score it as well as anyone. Solid and willing distributor gets her teammates involved.
Taylor Veach – 5’10 SF – 2022 – Central DeWitt (Featured Photo)
Veach is a versatile wing who has the strength to play on the block but is skilled enough to easily play on the perimeter. Love her ability to do whatever her team needs her to do. She’s getting her perimeter shot consistent as well making her a huge scoring threat.
Brooke Loewe – 5’7 PG – 2022 – Ballard
Loewe is a dynamic point guard who really improved this summer. She has the ability to get the ball in the basket in the half court, but also the ability to pass the ball really well. Loewe should have a great year this upcoming season and is always a player to watch.
