The Marauders are a group of players whose high school teams do not play in fall leagues.
Morgan Gray, Chesapeake AA, Center, 2020
Morgan is one of my favorite players out of Anne Arundel county. A legit six footer, she is wiry and deceptively strong. Morgan is a legit shot blocker because she uses timing and has good instincts in help defense situations. She uses her body well in the paint to shield defenders as she scores with flip shots, jump hooks and put backs. She can definitely help a DII or DIII program right away and she is open to all options.
Samiya Esema, Lansdowne, PM Marauders, Power Forward, 2020
Samiya is an athletic six foot power forward with a ton of potential. She is very strong in transition as she is fast and knows how to fill the lanes properly. She is a good finisher, even in traffic. She has a knack for using her height and vertical skills to grab offensive rebounds over the backs of smaller players while avoiding fouls. Defensively she is a solid on ball defender and a strong help defender. Samiya can knock down shots out to 15 feet and is very coachable. I expect her to land at D1 school where she will pursue a degree in Exercise Science.
Mariah Sanabia, Spalding, Point Guard, 2023
I was very impressed with Ms. Sanabia’s all around game. I imagine Spalding will use this exceptionally athletic and talented guard at the point position since there is really no one else to fill that void on the roster. I think she’s up to it, even as a freshman. At 5’11” she has excellent size and seems comfortable playing with and without the ball. I like her toughness and strength. She had multiple “and 1” opportunities as she was able to finish through significant contact on drives to the rim. She is defensive nightmare with her length and lateral quickness. She came up with a number of deflections and blocks that jump started transition offense for her team. The sky is the limit for this kid who plays with a quiet swagger and confidence that her teammates will feed off.
Jaela Reid, Meade, Wing, 2022
Jaela is a versatile 5’11” wing that fills a number of roles for the Mustangs and Coach Anika Dobbins. She usually defends the post because of her length and because Meade doesn’t have any other tall players on their roster. She uses good footwork and speed in these situations and actually does an adequate job against bigger, stronger players. She is starting to grab rebounds and push the break on a regular basis and her handle is improving. Her offensive game consists of slashing moves with strong finishes at rim and put backs and short jumpers. Jaela is a track star as well which kept her off the summer circuit this past season. I hope that changes next summer, there is a lot of potential here.
