Since then, we’ve seen a lot of freshmen hit the court and some new ones have made their way on to the rankings radar. Here are some of the 9th graders who have impressed in recent months.
Hadley Turner, Franklin-Simpson – After averaging 7 points and 5 rebounds per game last season, Turner looks to stake her claim to being the best freshman in the fourth region.
Macy Runner, Nelson County – Runner already had a scholarship offer from Western Kentucky before she started her first day of high school and the ceiling looks to be very high for the guard. After averaging nearly 14 points per game last year, she could be a 20 point per game scorer in her freshman season.
Meadow Tisdale, Bowling Green – Tisdale is a name known around Bowling Green for being great athletes for the Purples. Meadow is on track to be another star for BG. 6 points and 7 rebounds per game as an 8th grader is impressive but her best is yet to come.
Abby Holtman, Ryle – No one should be surprised that an 8th grader didn’t see a ton of time for the 2019 state champs. Likewise, no one should be surprised when Holtman steps into a much larger role as a Freshman.
Whitney Lind, Cooper – I believe Lind was the first 2023 in Kentucky to get a D1 scholarship and she will only keep getting better. There is a ridiculous amount of talent in Northern Kentucky and Whitney may be the best 2023 in the bunch.
Abby Maggard, Knott County Central – After starring at Floyd Central last season, Maggard is now at Knott and should step into a big role immediately as the starting point guard for the Lady Patriots.
Timberlynn Yeast, Mercer County – After leading the Titans in scoring last season at over 14 per game, Yeast is only going to keep getting better. She and Anna Kate Drakeford are among the best 2023 duos you’ll see.
Clara Collins, South Laurel – Collins is part of an absolutely loaded freshman class at South Laurel and she could be the best of the bunch. At the Elite 80 event, she stood out for her length and motor. She could be a role player at the varsity level by the end of the season.
Emily Estes, Lincoln County – Lincoln graduated a ton of talent last season but Estes looks like she’s ready to step in as a go to scorer already. Emily is a strong post player who can and should make an impact in the 12th region for the next several seasons.
Saniah Thomas, Pendleton County – Thomas barely played varsity last year but the potential is there to be a star. Thomas is the little sister of Kentucky freshman Dontaie Allen. She’s long and athletic like Dontaie and should be a really good player in the 10th region.
