One thing I do know is that right now, they are the two best teams in the area, TABC has their preseason rankings which are basically put together on what teams did the previous season because there is no way that Westside, Katy, Jersey Village, and Katy should be ahead of Cy Creek after losing the vast majority of their scoring from last season. I’ve touched on these squads, I’ve seen them multiple times and to be honest, this is going to come down to the role players, that’s a given
Taylor Jackson (Cy Creek) Maliyah Johnson (Summer Creek)Cy Creek has one of the best backcourts in the country, Rori Harmon and Kyndall Hunter and fellow junior Taylor Jackson’s improvement will be key to how far this team goes. Harmon and Hunter can combine for 40-50 just about anytime they touch the court but at some point, they’re going to run into talented squads with an abundance of defensive guards whose primary purpose will be to take the ball out of their hands and make someone else beat you. Morgan Hill at 6’1 is one of the top seniors in the state and she is a double-double waiting to happen
Summer Creek has an abundance of defensive guards and I haven’t looked at the brackets but I’m assuming if they win their district, it will be an up the Creek battle for the Region 3 title and here’s why. Seniors Maliyah Johnson and Mailyn Wilkerson are both coming off of solid summer with their respective EYBL club teams, Johnson a 6’1 F/P that can attack as well as shoot the long ball while Wilkerson showed she is much more than one of the top long ball shooters in the area. The improvement of Adoara Nwokeji and Alayia Francis, both talented juniors, as well as senior transfer Hillary Broussard, will bring plenty of heat on defense
Tierra SimonHeights is the best team in HISD, without seeing everyone else, I already know this because Gracelyn Alvarez can drop 30-40 just like that so don’t blink, she’s a threat as soon as she crosses halfcourt and I’m not exaggerating, fabricating or imagining anything about her game. Cyncere Roberts exploded on and off the court as she joined Alvarez and Tierra Simon on PGH 2021 Top 100. She plays taller than she is and her ups and athleticism add to the package. Simon is one of the top posts in her class, they are the Big Three but it doesn’t stop there. Chloe Figueroa and Aaliyah Macias have shown they can stretch the defense with their shooting, big fall leagues for both Jada Beasley and Tatianna Brown add fuel to their fire. Can Heights make a run, the answer is definitely and this should be interesting
Kenna GibsonClear Springs and Clear Falls will battle it out in the district, I’m just guessing but the depth of the Chargers, especially an army of athletic guards have me thinking “you never know” how this will turn out in a game playoff but here’s what I do know, Jermia Green might be one of the best guards In Texas you haven’t heard of and if you haven’t, shame on you because I wrote about her in middle school and updated her as she entered her freshman season. I don’t just throw that “nightmare to defend” out there like many throw other phrases, for whatever reasons, unless I mean it. I also mean Kenna Gibson is about to blow completely up, yeah I knew she could shoot the three but she’s added so much more and is one of the sophomores on the rise. Caprice Morgan, Colbrina Flowers, D’nae Johnson, I can go on and on about these guards on the squad that just create havoc and excitement but Niyah Johnson has been upgraded to Top 100 status for PGH 2021 class and at 6’0, she will be one of the keys to how far this squad goes
