Of the 99 ranked players the three below are among those to watch develop.
#26 Kayla Morris, 5’10”, F, Sterling, SC Dream – Morris was selected to the Heart of America League’s second team. She warrants attention due to being fast and athletic in transition, including being able to go end-to-end with the ball off the rebound. Aggressive around the basket, she posts and rebounds aggressively. Key in her development this year will be showing the ability to be a consistent perimeter threat and to defend multiple positions.
Liberal 2021 Aubrey Warden is shown with John Lucas at the summer 2019 John Lucas Top 160 event.#35 Aubrey Warden, 5’10”, PF, Liberal, Game Ball Basketball – On a team poised to return to the Class 6A state tournament, with two senior NCAA division I commits leading the charge, it can be easy for teams to concentrate their attentions on them. Warden is a developing talent who averaged 6.1 points, on 56% shooting, and 5.4 rebounds that cannot be ignored. As a 81% free throw shooter, she can consistently hurt teams who foul her. Notable is her solid build, her physical strength defending in the post, and her quickness. Keep a watch on how her offensive game away from the basket grows and what her athleticism and quickness shows about defending multiple positions.
West Elk 2021 Madelyne Koop, a transfer from 2019 3A state tournament qualifier Eureka, posts up during a summer club game with Wheat State Elite.#36 Madelyne Koop, 5’10”, PF, West Elk, Wheat State Elite – Koop was a Kansas Basketball Coaches Assocation 3A honorable mention and Tri-Valley League first team selection while playing for Eureka this past season. Averaging 17.9 points and 7.3 rebounds she was state tournament qualifier Eureka’s best post player. She is an aggressive rebounder, plays good positional interior defense, and finishes strongly from the left block. Growth in her all-around game, especially on the perimeter and off-the-bounce on both ends, should draw additional attention.
