Ally Shagena had her special day, committing to attend school and play basketball at Wayne State. She’s a star small forward/shooting guard in the class of 2021. Shagena goes to Port Huron Northern High School. We recently caught up with her to talk about her game, her commitment, and more.
Question:
What is your biggest strength as a player?
Ally Shagena:
My biggest strength as a player is my versatility. I can guard multiple positions on defense and play multiple positions on offense.
Question:
You recently committed to Wayne State. How does it feel?
Ally Shagena:
I am very excited to have the opportunity to play at Wayne State. It has felt good to make this decision so early so that I can focus on the rest of my high school career.
Question:
What made Wayne State the right choice for you?
Ally Shagena:
Wayne State has everything I was looking for. I love the coaches and and the campus and I’m especially excited to play in the new arena.
Question:
What was the most exciting part of the recruiting process?
Ally Shagena:
The most exciting part of the recruiting process was being able to talk to college coaches from all different levels and visiting different campuses. It was interesting to see how they all compared to each other.
Question:
What was the most stressful aspect of being recruited?
Ally Shagena:
The most stressful aspect of being recruited was keeping on top of responding to all of the coaches. It was also stressful when after I made my decision, I had to tell other coaches that had recruited me because I had also built a good relationship with them.
Question:
What are your personal goals for the coming high school season?
Ally Shagena:
This year is a rebuilding year for my team, so my goal is to be a good leader to some of the new girls that will be joining varsity.
Question:
What professional basketball player reminds you of yourself?
Ally Shagena:
A professional basketball player that reminds me of myself is Tamika Catchings because one of her strongest attributes is defense and defense is one of the things I pride myself on too.
Question:
What is your favorite subject in school?
Ally Shagena:
My favorite subject is mathematics and I hope to be able to pursue engineering in college.
