College Commitment: 2020 Tiara Hollimon (Glacier Peak HS)
Seattle Pacific University does an outstanding job of keeping talent home and they have done so once again with the commitment of Glacier Peak High School’s, Tiara Hollimon. Tiara was gracious enough to give some insight into how the recruitment process went for her, why she chose Seattle Pacific and what her plans are for her senior year.
Tiara described the recruitment process as being “hectic”. The 5’10 forward mentioned, “I feel like we get bits of advice here and there on what to do and how to do it but it’s kind of overwhelming.” Junior year was when she narrowed in on coaches and programs she wanted really get to know more about. “When I went to the school and/or met the coaching staff I could tell pretty quickly if it would or wouldn’t be a good fit for me.” Ultimately, she felt that SPU was the right fit for her.
The SPU coaches were frequent visitors to Glacier Peak High School games and Tiara attended their elite camp this summer. She got to know the staff pretty well during this time and they ended up inviting her to take a visit and loved it. She mentioned, “The coaches are amazing, the girls on the team were sweet and welcoming and the overall vibe and values of the university is what I’ve always wanted in a school.”
Despite all of the good news, Tiara also shared some unfortunate news to prep girls hoops that will be a blow to Glacier Peak this upcoming season. After dislocating her shoulder three times in a month, she found out that she had a torn labrum and has surgery scheduled for November 5th. “It was really heartbreaking to accept that I won’t be able to play my senior year for Glacier Peak.” Tiara still fully epxects Glacier Peak to be back at the Dome competing for a state championship.
“I am beyond grateful that SPU is giving me this opportunity and thankful to God! For something that could have been crushing to me and my dreams has turned into a blessing.” The recovery process will involve lots of conditioning and she plans to do everything possible to prepare for her collegiate career, while she cheers on her teammates throughout her senior year.
