But there are a lot of teams who are ready to also make that dream run from the Dayton area, as the season begins one week from today with the first day of practice.
Over the next couple of days, I will look at some of the teams who are expected to have a nice season, some expected and maybe a couple of sleepers.
Today, a look at some of those D2 teams who hope to make some noise. Tomorrow, a look at the top 5.
Division 2 Teams to Watch
Dayton Dunbar
My pick to win the City League, the Wolverines did lose the Player of the Year in the league last season, but returns some solid kids. Senior Samaria Brown is a multidimensional player who can score from anywhere on the court, and can get inside as a guard. Rickera McClusky returns as another senior who will handle the point guard spot, and can defend. Skyy Robbins, Briyanna Combs and Ammauria Moore expect to also contribute to their success.
Middletown Fenwick
After finishing 9-13 on the season, and 0-10 in the league, the Falcons are poised to have a turnaround season. They were very balanced last season with Hannah Beckman returning averaging 8.5 ppg to lead the team. Emily Adams is a 6-foot junior who had an excellent summer, getting some looks at some bigtime events. She will handle the post. There are a couple of freshman also vying for some time this season.
Chaminade Julienne
There is a lot of talent on this roster, with kids who can and will play at the next level. Senior Staci Greene is one of the best perimeter players in the region, and she will be joined by fellow seniors Eve Monaghan as a solid post player and guard Jordyn Varise as a multi-threat guard. Senior Courtney Redd is also very athletic and productive.
Greenville
The last couple of years, Greenville has began to turn their program around, winning 14 games two years ago and 10 last year. As the Wave take the floor, they will be led by Haleigh Behnken, who will play her college hoops at Edison State. Natea Davidson is also back, and will add good court presence at the guard spot for Greenville. Morgan Gilbert is another solid guard as they will look to utilize their talents in the backcourt to translate into victories this season.
Eaton
Even with the loss of some quality seniors, Eaton will be competitive and challenge in the SWBL thanks to the presence of senior Bailey Shepherd. The wing has already verballed to Indiana Tech, and can shoot with anyone in the league. Also back is junior Lexi Miller who had some solid games last season. They will need a couple of other players to step up their production this season to help the Eagles challenge.
