Continue ReadingEllis Barfield, head Girls Basketball Coach of Lynwood High School put on his 4th Annual Girls Fall Basketball Showcase and it was a success. He put about 15 to 20 schools together to play two games each and measure where they are at this time of the year, coaches were trying their best to win games, but not show their sets and defensive schemes to all of the video scouts in the gym. It is primarily a circus at this time of the year so that coaches send out their assistants to gather early game tape on teams they feel they will have to play at one time or another. All fair in war, so good luck to all of the teams that participated in this event, I really enjoyed watching some good basketball and also your teams helped me to evaluate girls I have not seen before.
2020 – 6’2, PF, Chaminade HS, Alexis Whitfield – Played well for her team this weekend, did some of the things we have not seen her do in a while. She pushed the ball and made the right passes to teammates, she blocked shots in the paint, scored from all three levels and were able to dominate her opponent in the paint and on the glass. She rebounded like no other and did some good things for her team to get the wins.
2020, 5’7, PG, Rosary HS, Asia Avinger – Pushed the ball for her team this weekend as well, she showed her improved midrange game as well as her three point shot. She defended well and pretty much took control of the team and willed them to get some wins. Rosary is quite a team, they bombard you with three point shots and then press you on the other side of the floor and they try and speed you up to play at their pace. Asia is the leader of this group and will help them reach the final again.
2021, 6’4, PF/C, Harvard Westlake, KiKi Iriafen – Kiki needed some help this weekend, it was a tough one for her this time around, the guards were under attack from Corona Centennial and it was difficult for her to score. This was due to her guards not be able to take the defensive siege put on by the Centennial guards and wings. She finished in the paint off the entry passes, but those scores came to far and in between the scoring from Centennial and just was not enough for her to lead her team to a win. She is still one of the most dominating post in her class and #1 2021 in our Rankings, but her team as a whole is gonna be in trouble, due to guard play.
2022, 6’2, PF/C, St. Mary’s Academy, Chloe Williams – Chloe played well for her team this weekend, but she also did not have any help from her team, she pushed the ball, she shot threes and made layups. Chloe did everything possible to try and get her team to win the game, but it was totally impossible for the guards to withstand the pressure from Palisades.
