It was a good warmup for a lot of these teams as the start of the high school regular season is just around the corner.
I arrived at the event around mid-afternoon, and here’s a look at some of the top talent that I saw during the day.
1. Kiki Iriafen – Harvard-Westlake 2021
Iriafen is one of the fastest rising prospects nationally and watching her play, it’s easy to see why. She’s very strong and fluid in the post with a soft touch around the rim. She has a size advantage over most players her age and she uses that efficiently when playing in the paint. She finishes strong at the rim. She’s also a good rebounder and should be a double-double threat. She moves well defensively and can keep up with guards on the wing.
2. Patricia Chung – Mark Keppel 2020
A Long Beach State commit, Chung is a solid overall point guard. She has a great court awareness and vision and is a good passer in the half-court. She’s constantly looking for her teammates for easy buckets and she sets them up well for good shots. She’s also very quick off the dribble when attacking her defender and she’s able to score if need be.
3. Calli Stokes – Redondo Union 2021
Stokes is a strong inside player who finishes well around the rim. She’s a forward who can play on the wing and play in the paint as well. She’s mobile and moves very well without the ball. She has good hands around the rim and she makes strong cuts. Able to handle the ball on the perimeter at times. She has very quick feet defensively and it enables her to guard multiple positions. Stays with guards and contests their drives.
4. Gabriela Jaquez – Camarillo 2022
Jaquez is a very talented wing who is poised to have a big sophomore season after making an impact as a freshman a year ago. She can put the ball on the floor and make plays off the dribble. She is adept at getting to the rim and finishing over defenders. She’s a good rebounder and she’s able to start the fast break off a rebound. Also is able to fight for second chance opportunities on the offensive glass.
5. Alyssa Marin – Camarillo 2020
Marin is a very strong combo guard. She made the transition to point guard this past season and seems to be handling it well. Good balance between a facilitator and being a scorer. Offensively, her strong suit is her slashing game and attacking off the dribble. She has some nice spin moves to sidestep her defender and a nice little floater at the rim. Can draw contact and get to the line. Good outside shooter.
