The event was a great success, in large part to the players, parents, and coaches that were in attendance. There were so many standout performances throughout the day, but here are some playmakers that impressed me the most on Saturday:
It didn’t take long for Loyola-Chicago commit Kaylen Evans to make a big impact. The 2020 Guard from Nazareth Academy is a flat out scorer. Evans is a strong ball handler who uses her excellent court vision in transition to find open teammates or take the ball to the hoop.
Halle Douglass out of Lake Forest completely dominated on both ends of the floor. The 6’2” Wisconsin commit uses her length well on defense, altering shots and making things difficult for nearly any opposing player. Offensively she handled the ball well and was able to knock down shots at all three levels.
Prep Girls Hoops Illinois’ top ranked player in the 2021 Class, Greta Kampschroeder from Naperville North continues to reaffirm her ranking. The 6’0” Guard is elite on offense, playing a mature style of basketball that is difficult for most to keep up with at this level. She attacks the lane with great control and creates open shots for herself with a variety of moves.
Oregon commit and Maine West star Angela Dugalic made things look easy on Saturday. The 6’4” G/F continues to improve offensively, knocking down shots at a higher and higher rate. Dugalic also showed her array of post moves, using top-level footwork and great touch in the lane.
A 5’11’ junior guard from Fenwick, Lauren Hall continues to be one of the more impressive players in the area on both ends of the court. Her length and athleticism allow her to guard multiple positions and disrupt passing lanes. Offensively she has all the tools to take over a game. She can attack the lane off the dribble and finish in a variety of ways, or spot up from beyond the three-point line and hit shots at a consistent rate.
2021 Kelby Bannerman was one of the top overall players at the PGH IL Top 250 Expo.Perhaps the top player in the class of 2023, Jordan Wood from Carmel Catholic already falls in the elite category. The 6’4” athlete can play multiple spots on offense with her ability to handle the ball well and hit shots from all levels. Defensively she uses her length and quick feet to make things tough on opposing post players.
Kelby Bannerman out of Hampshire definitely showed that she belongs among the top players in the state. The 6’1” junior is strong with the ball and had success both in the post and beyond the arc. Bannerman runs the floor well in transition and finishes under control at the hoop.
