Blake, Brandon, and I will be pushing out multiple different types of articles with as many angles as possible. I, personally, will be grouping players in positions who I thought stood out or played well. Below, you can find the forwards who I thought had a really good day.
Bridget Dunn – 6’2 PF – 2021 – Carmel
Dunn is one of the top players in the 2021 class. She showed why on Sunday as she consistently was able to get to the rim and score the ball. Dunn is able to shoot the ball from distance at a good percentage which makes her even more dangerous. She’s a player who can hurt you in so many different ways and has a ton of versatility to add to that scoring. I look for her to really make waves this upcoming season.
Anya Friend – 5’10 PF – 2021 – Bloomington South
Friend was quick to jump on my radar at the Top 250. She showed a nice touch around the rim, the ability to shoot it, and the want to rebound the ball. I was surprised to see Friend knock down a couple jumpers from the arc in a row but she did it with confidence. She played really hard throughout and was among one of the top post players there. I think she has the ability to play either forward spot.
Tenleigh Phelps – 5’10 PF – 2021 – Triton Central
Phelps was dominant at the Expo. She consistently got to the basket and scored the ball but she also showed the ability to hit the jumper. Once Phelps started going at the rim, there was no stopping her. Phelps has great body control allowing her to score the ball with ease at the rim. Phelps is going to be a very solid player at the next level and she showed why at the showcase.
Emma Shelton – 5’10 PF – 2021 – Jasper
Shelton has developed more of a perimeter game since I last saw her in the summer. She looked much more comfortable on the perimeter on Sunday and looked a touch more athletic as well. Shelton was able to score at all three levels and as always, she played really hard. I enjoy watching her play due to her ability to affect the game on both ends of the court without doing it in a super flashy way.
Haley Thomas – 6′ C – 2022 – Harrison (Lafayette)
Thomas is a very interesting player who still looks to have some development left. I was pleased with how I thought she shot the ball and I was also excited to see how hard she played. It’s tough sometimes for post players to go 100% in showcases like this but I thought Thomas did a great job of not slacking off. She is a fluid athlete who is going to get better as time goes on.
