Some will be attempting to take a shot at the throne and begin a dynasty; while some are starting a new era in their respective programs, and want to hit the ground running this school year. Below are some programs that are expected to standout this season.
Saint Frances Academy, Baltimore, MD
This season the Lady Panthers will go as far as senior Angel Reese (18.3 PPG last season) will take them; and based on her play throughout her high school career; expect the Lady Panthers to make a great run this year. Coming off a season where the Panthers won the IAAM Championship, there should be no surprise seeing this squad go far in the postseason this year.
Riverdale Baptist School, Upper Marlboro, MD
The Lady Crusaders finished their season last year 32-7, in which none of those losses came from divisional opponents. Combine that with the fact that this team has three players in our Prep Girls Hoops top 10 rankings (Elizabeth Martino, Kaylah Ivey, Synia Johnson); this season looks to be very promising for this Lady Crusaders program.
Roland Park Country School, Baltimore, MD
The Country Reds are coming off a season where they suffered two losses, one to the Saint Frances Academy Lady Panthers in the IAAM Championship game. Only having three seniors graduate last year, and having both Mir McLean and Rain Green return for their senior campaigns; is a definitely a great look for the Country Reds. Expect this team to make another legitimate run at the championship this season as well.
Bishop McNamara, Forestville, MD
This program had a great record last season (31-4), however came up short in both the WCAC Championship and the Bishop Walsh Maryland Championship games. Being led by Madison Scott & Liatu King, who both are elite level wing players; do not be surprised if the Lady Mustangs perform a revenge tour on the opposition this season.
Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, Baltimore, MD
The Lady Engineers are returning from a 17-4 season last year. They still have players such as: Dasia Townes, Cach’e Wilson, and Gabrielle Franks on their roster, so this year should display a consistent growth in chemistry and team basketball. The Lady Engineers can make some noise this season; so be on the look out for this squad throughout the year.
