Coming off a solid junior year, Alvarez-Gordillo is hoping to play her way out of sleeper status and into a late opportunity to play basketball somewhere after high school.
“She’s an all-around athlete,” Eagle Ridge head coach Keith Casey said. “Jackie plays volleyball and she’s the captain, she plays soccer and she obviously plays basketball. By far, basketball is her sport and she has a natural talent on the court. She doesn’t just have the ability to play but also has the ability to read what’s happening on the entire floor.”
Alvarez-Gordillo played point guard last season, averaging 9.9 points, 2.4 assists, 5.6 rebounds and 3.7 steals per game. She shot 35 percent from the field and is moving to shooting guard for her senior campaign to give the Warriors a different look and another scoring option.
At 5-foot-6, Alvarez-Gordillo is a quick-twitch athlete who is extremely active on defense and gets her hands on the ball a lot. She runs the fast break well and though she does not attempt many 3-point shots, Casey is expecting her to break out in a number of ways as a senior with her shooting number potentially increasing with the move to shooting guard.
In 2018-19, Eagle Ridge went 14-9, was unbeaten in the 3A/2A Confluence League, won a district championship and advanced to the 3A state tournament before losing in the first round to eventual runner-up Colorado Springs Christian.
Eagle Ridge’s Cydnee Collins made the CHSAA all-state honorable mention list as a junior last season. Collins led the Warriors with 13.4 points, 9.6 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game.
