Faith had a strong club season playing on Al Aldridge’s Columbia Cascades top team and she hopes to keep the momentum rolling into her junior year of high school. I recently had the chance to catch up with the 6’2 post and talk about her plans for this upcoming season and how the recruitment process is coming along.
It has been a busy Fall for the 6’2 center as she looks to expand on her all around skill set to prepare for college. “I’ve been spending a lot of time at Legends gym doing skills work with Ashley Corral, and at New Athlete.” Strength training is newer for her, but she feels it is already paying dividends for her game. “At this stage, I’d say I’m definitely more comfortable playing inside than playing outside. I’ve spent a lot of time developing my inside game, and learning moves and techniques down low.” Most recently, Faith has made a concerted effort to stretch her game out to the perimeter some as well. This Fall season, she has been playing some 4 and getting live reps driving and kicking and making decisions on the perimeter versus pressure.
Faith’s goals for this season include becoming more effective on the perimeter. “[I want to get] more comfortable dribbling with pressure and cutting in offense. I also want to work on seeing the court and any opportunities that may arise so that we can get easy shots. I’m hoping I can also use this to help my teammates see more opportunities on the court.”
As far as recruitment goes, Faith currently holds an offer from Southern Utah University. Southern Utah has recently made it a point to recruit PNW kids and have gotten two Washington natives in Kinsley Barrington and Dayla Ballena. Other schools that have shown the most interest include Northern Colorado, Eastern Washington and Portland State. Some different schools she has spoken with on the phone include Oregon Institute of Technology, George Fox, Idaho State, Weber State, University of Montana, University of San Francisco, Cal Poly, and Yale.
Visits Update:
Faith has taken two visits so far in the recruitment process. Southern Utah and Cal Poly are two schools of serious interest that she has visited. She will also be taking a visit to Eastern Washington On November 1st.
