Continue ReadingHoxie rising senior guard Addi Campbell is coming off a strong offseason and is gearing up for a breakout senior season in 2019-20.
A 5’4 guard, Campbell likes to play a fast paced game. She can get to the rim, shoot from the outside and can knock down 3-pointers. On defense, Campbell has quick hands and can come up with steals and turn defense into offense in transition.
She plays an aggressive brand of basketball and brings intensity to the floor.
A year ago, Campbell averaged 11.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 4.3 steals per game as Hoxie finished the season 12-8. The Indians eventually fell to Plainville by seven points in the semi-finals of sub-state.
She says summer ball has helped prepare her for the upcoming season and has helped her adjust to a faster and stronger game.
“The competition in summer ball is a lot different than in regular season, due to being able to play against top players,” Campbell said. “It has helped me be more disciplined on defense and find new ways to score. Personally I have been working on a more consistent jump shot. I need to take more jump shots in a game and expand my scoring capabilities.”
Campbell says Shelly Hoyt has had the biggest impact on her basketball career to date.
“She introduced me to the game and knew an incredible amount about basketball,” Campbell said. “She instilled in me from a young age to be disciplined and to work hard. She pushed me to get out of my comfort zone and that has truly benefited me.”
A fan of NBA standout Russell Westbrook, Campbell says she appreciates the passion he plays the game with.
“He’s such an explosive player and knows how to execute a play,” Campbell said. “He also just has pure love for the game. I try to be just as explosive and aggressive as him on the court and see the court as well as he does.”
Campbell has heard from Pratt Community College, Colby Community College and Friends University.
