At 5’6, Byers is capable of playing either guard spot, is known for her outside shooting and likes to push the ball up the floor and share the ball. She has good court awareness and likes to play an uptempo style of play.
A year ago, South Haven put together a strong season, finishing 15-7 overall and Byers averaged 17.3 points shot 73 percent from the free throw line, made 70 3-pointers and finished the season with 381 points.
“Last year our team was pretty solid, we had some ups and downs but we were a pretty decent team,” Byers said. “
Byers says she hasn’t played much travel basketball but spent a lot of time attending various camps and improving her all-around skills.
“I have been to 5-6 different camps and it has helped me improve my awareness, ball handling, shooting, and my footwork,” she said. “I’ve been working on ball handling and shooting because I want to be good at both for my last year and college career.”
A fan of Steph Curry, Byers says she appreciates his outside shooting and all-around game.
“He’s a good shooter and is very good at getting others open,” she said. “I’ve been able to implement his passing and shooting into my game.”
Byers recently committed to play at Cowley College and will be signing her letter-of-intent in November. She chose the school over several other programs, including Southwestern College, Hastings College in Nebraska, a Penn State undergraduate school, Friends University and others.
“Cowley was the best option for me because not only is it close to home and my family/ friends but the coaches are super nice, I love the campus and environment, they also have a good program in law enforcement in which I plan to pursue as my career,” Byers said.
