A 5’8 2021 guard, Newfarmer is a pass first player who likes to share the ball and help her teammates get easy looks. She has good court vision, and is strong off the bounce, attacking the basket.
After losing to Salina Central in the first round of sub-state a year ago, Newfarmer says expectations are high this season at Andover Central.
“My high school season (last year) I feel wasn’t my best, but maybe that’s because I’m really hard on myself but we didn’t end how we wanted to,” Newfarmer said.
She says competing with Ohlde Elite this past summer has helped prepare her for the upcoming season at Andover Central. She has focused on improving her outside shooting touch and hopes the outside game will help open up other scoring opportunities this season.
“I grew a lot as a player this past summer — I played on almost an entirely new team and new organization,” Newfarmer said. “I feel like this past summer helped me grow by helping my confidence and knowing I can do things i always have helped my teammates do.
“I’ve been working a lot on my offensive game with shooting the ball more since I’ve always been a player that drives. I always have been working a lot of stuff outside of the court with balance, coordination, and the stuff that helps me be a better player.”
She says the biggest influences on her basketball career have been her older sister and coach Craig Nicholson.
“I watched (my older sister) growing up and I wanted to be just like her,” Newfarmer said. “Coach Nicholson really got me skill wise to where I am today and has pushed me to be a better player, teammate and person all around.”
A fan of WNBAs Kelsey Plum, Newfarmer says she can relate to the Las Vegas Stars’ game.“She’s such an interesting player to watch because her game as so many different things you can learn,” Newfarmer said. “I am always learning from her and can say I try to be like her.”
Newfarmer has received an offer from Newman University and have had phone calls with University of Nebraska Kearney, Washburn, Missouri Western, South Dakota State University, and Drury University. She has also received letters from Texas State University, Nebraska Omaha, and Emporia State University.
