The 2-Guard position group has vastly improved, and while there aren’t any high-major Division-I prospects, this last calendar year has seen quite a few girls rise in the rankings due to improved play, strength building, and skillful development. With that said, below is a look at the Top-25 2-guard prospects in Indiana’s Class of 2020, with additional comments to follow.

Sydney Jacobsen of West Lafayette’s William Henry Harrison High School is one of the state’s most skilled basketball players, regardless of class or position. She is the epitome of what outsiders think an Indiana ballplayer looks like. She is a dangerous shooter with range beyond the 3-point line, she has a great feel for the game and a high basketball IQ, and she is a strong & tough-nosed kid who will play with some physicality. She isn’t afraid to post a little or battle for rebounds. For her high school team, she’ll even handle the ball quite a bit and initiate the offense for them. Sydney committed months ago to continue her playing career at Division-II power Ashland University.
Shooting is always at a premium when it comes to recruiting, but in an era when great shooters are few and far between, Penn High School’s Reganne Pate stands out as one of the best in Indiana right now. Last Winter, she reached triple-digits in makes, and she shot 52% from beyond the arc (100-193). However, she only attempted 20 2-point field goals and seven free throws on the season, so obviously she has found her niche. She does have a solid handle, a good feel and IQ for the game, and she rarely turns it over, plus she’s a long and quick-footed defender in the passing lanes. Reganne has given a verbal commitment to play at the University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
At times it can be difficult to be the daughter of the Head Coach, and it can be doubly difficult when you are following in the footsteps of your sister, who just happened to be an Indiana All-Star and is currently playing Division-I basketball. Rylie Parker of Homestead High School has done just that admirably. She is a strong, tough, and reasonably physical wing guard who has really worked on her handle and her feel for the game. She is a good perimeter shooter, and last season she hit big shots in big games on multiple occasions. I like how she competes each possession at both ends of the floor, and she really understands what she is and isn’t as a ballplayer. Rylie has verbally committed to Purdue University-Fort Wayne.
Another player from Northeast Indiana who virtually no one outside of that area talks about, is Addison Bayman of Woodlan High School. Addison is a skilled and talented guard who not only gets overlooked by common fans, but she was likely under-recruited as well. She has good length, speed, quickness, and athleticism, and she can play either guard spot equally well. She can handle it and create offense, she gets to the basket somewhat at will, plus she’s a high-level defender who averaged nearly five steals per contest in 2018-2019. Addison has given a verbal commitment to Spring Arbor University, and I have a feeling other schools will regret not having recruited her harder.
From one corner of the state, to its diagonal opposite, Castle High School will be going through some changes after graduation claimed some sizeable players the last couple of years. With the backcourt now being the focal point, look for Josie Freeman to be someone who could step into more of a scoring role this time around. She has a strong, athletic frame, she moves well in most directions, and she can get to the basket and finish through contact. She has a really nice mid-range game, and she’s capable of knocking down an open rhythm jumper from the perimeter. I like how hard she plays at both ends of the floor, plus she’s a willing, capable, and versatile defender. She could be a really nice small college “sleeper”.
