I arrived Saturday morning to the location and was greeted by Coach Porter and his staff, I assisted them in setting up the venue and getting the camp ready for the girls to come in and register. At about 9 am, girls started to show and come in the gym, they checked them in and then sent them to get a jersey to wear for the event. After they got the jerseys issued, they were sent to me to take their camp portfolio shot for the website and for the social media we will be sending out during and after the showcase camp. Everything went well and the camp commenced with a short introduction of the coaches and myself, which also made a little statement to the girls about recruiting in today’s game, social media is changing the whole recruiting dynamic fast and in a hurry. Here are all of the girls who attended the camp and their prospective schools they attend and vitals, hope you like this. I really appreciate Demetrius Porter for his hospitality at this event, those TACOS were on point……
Here are the participants who we watched this weekend, some talent in the house for the Shenom Showcase.
2022, 5’7, PG, Clovis North HS, Asha Sra – She was one of the most crafty point guards in the house and was very good with her handle, herky-jerky and had some major wiggle to her game. She was able to break down the defense and get to the rim and finish with either hand in transition as well as executed the pass of the pick-n-roll on the floor. Love this kid.
2022, 5’11, SG, Bullard HS, Geizelle Jones – One the smoothest shooting guards in the camp, was long and lanky guard that plays very well on the perimeter. Her defensive abilities on the floor impressed and she was an uncanny shot blocker. She was able to finish at the rim with either hand in transition but had the smoothest shot in the building. Major upside for this one as well.
2022, ‘5,5, PG, Porterville HS, Madison Johnson – Young scrappy guard type that is defensively capable of things, deflected a lot of balls on defense and was always on the attack on the floor. Another young developing guard that will be fun to watch.
2022, 5’6, PG, Hanford HS, Makayla Young – She was a tough guard that could get to the rim with quickness and strength, was able to get by her defenders with ease and finish at the rim. Witnessed her also shoot the ball pretty well from the midrange area out to the three-line.
2022, 5’5, PG/SG, Sierra Pacific HS, Taylor Whitfield – Another solid body type guard with strength, quickness and athleticism here, strong to the rim and we watched her knock down some threes as well as show a nice midrange pull up.
2022, 6’0, C, Khari Grimes – Khari was a big body post presence that had a good skill set in the paint, she could finish with either hand down there. Her best attribute to the game was her defensive game, willing shot blocker and rebounder in the paint.
2022, 5’6, PG, Porterville HS, Nseije Ortiz – Solid Lefty guard that has the best ability in a skill set, that is running her team to perfection, getting it done no matter what. She could finish at the rim thru contact and just plain does nothing to hurt the team, a coaches player.
2023, 5’8, SG, Chaminade College Prep HS, Ameera Nayani – Ameera is a great teammate in my opinion, she is willing to set screens and do what it takes to contribute to her teams win. She can shoot the ball out to the three-line, she is good off the bounce and is a willing defender.
2023, 5’6, PG, San Joaquin Memorial HS, Malaysia Weaks – She was a solid guard with a lot of tools for the game, she could score it, she could get to the rim and also defend. She is a true point guard, she ran her team to perfection, this is what coaches are looking for in a PG nowadays. Major upside for this one.
2023, 6’2, PF, San Joaquin Memorial HS, Meadow Roland – This girl is special, with her size, she reminds me of Lisa Leslie with a better jump shot from three from the outside. She blocks shots off the backboard, she ran the floor and finished in transition as well as could run the break herself and make the right play. Very High IQ for a kid this age, she is gonna be fun to watch this year, major upside for this kid.
2023, 5’6, PG, Hanford HS, Monaysia Young – Monaysia was that young type guard with a lot of tools for the game, but has is so young, she has not figured out how to utilize them well. The light is about to turn on and when it does, this kid will be another tough guard from the Central Valley. Tons of upside for this freshman.
2023, 5’9, SF, Daphene Jackson – Daphene is a big body guard type, solid as they come when it comes to being ready to play high school ball. Has a really aggressive type game, which we love to see, other smaller guards will shy away because of her attack aggression. She finished thru contact at the rim, was able to get into the paint with ease, really excited to see her play this year.
2023, 6’0, SF, Clovis West HS, Etoya Montgomery – Etoya is special as well, athletic wing type body with great timing for blocking shots, dominant in the post area, shot the midrange with consistency, but was a rebounding machine that just keeps coming at you. Her rebounding and shot blocking skills are unmatched by anyone in her class, but one thing I like is that she can get a bucket any time she wants. Major upside on this kid.
