Continue ReadingI have previewed the conferences that I cover but I do not want to leave out any outstanding players that are not in those conferences. So, I will go through the same categories for all of Southern Illinois. Let me state up front I don’t claim to know every player and I have no specific criteria for what is and isn’t Southern Illinois. The top shooters are not just those that hit 3’s but also are clutch from the free throw line. I will do my best and here it goes.
- Clare Breden is a 5’5 2021 guard from Jerseyville. Clare has outstanding range and is deadly when she has space. She hit 67 threes and shot 75% from the line last year. Clare has worked very hard to improve her mid range game which makes her an even bigger threat on her jumper. Clare has a strong lower body which allows her to shoot without much strain so her form is consistent and delivers consistent results.
- Aubrey Hubbard is a 5’7 2020 guard from Waterloo. Aubrey burst on the scene last year as a transfer by hitting 72 threes. She shot them at a healthy 38% clip and is lights out when she has space. Aubrey improved off the dribble late in the year and will need to carry that into her senior year to keep the defense honest.
- Lexi Niebrugge is a 5’8 2021 guard from Tuetopolis. Lexi was a big factor on the offensive end for the Wooden Shoes in their run to state. She hit 73 threes and let the team in scoring at 12 per game. Lexi is strong and can score off the dribble too. She hit free throws at over a 75% clip so she should be looking to get to the line more often this year.
- Sydney Harris is a 6’0 2022 wing from Edwardsville. Sydney is a shooter. Its just that simple. She always has been she probably always will be. Sydney hit numerous big shots for Edwardsville in her freshman season. She is one of those players that has ice in her veins. Sydney hit 53% of her three’s and averaged 12.9 points per game. As she continues to improve her game off the bounce Sydney will be very hard to hold down. She comes from a family with a long history in the game so she learns from strong parents and a Hall of Fame coach in Lori Blade.
- Rylee Pickett is a 5’6 2020 guard from Greenville. Rylee made it to state and just short of the finals in the 3 point contest last year. She can heat up in a hurry and hit 3 or 4 in a row before you know it. Rylee his 48 threes and averaged 10 points per game on a very deep team last year. I expect her to show more of her game as she steps forward in her senior season.
- Molly Diekemper is a 2020 5’11 wing from Carlyle.Molly also made a deep run in the state 3 point contest only to fall in the same play off as Pickett. She made 41 threes during the season but really showed what she could do in the contest. Molly will be pressured to score even more than her 14 points per game from last year in her senior season. Because of that she may have to force some shots at times but I expect her to have a huge season scoring the ball.
- Shannon Lampe is a 5’10 2020 wing from Breese Mater Dei. Shannon is a very smooth scorer that is very efficient from the mid range. She did hit 33 threes but also made 99 free throws at a 78% clip. She is deadly from 12-18 feet and excels in getting those shots off the dribble. Shannon will step further to the forefront this year with the graduation of the 2019 class and I expect her to have a big year.
- Annabelle Harrison is a 5’8 2020 wing from Mt. Vernon. Annabelle has great range and is a deadly shooter from behind the arc. She was able to advance to state in her junior season in the 3 point contest. Annabelle is a shooter that opponents will have to game plan for as she will light them up if left alone.
- Emma Rush is a 5’6 2021 guard from Vienna. Emma made it all the way to the final 4 in the state 3 point contest as a freshman. She was consistent through each level. Emma has a great shot that she is able to repeat and she is working hard to get even better.
- Addison Miller is a 5’7 2021 guard from Benton.Addison is a prototypical sniper. She is there, waiting for her shots and is deadly when she gets them. Addison has scored 555 points in two seasons and looks ready to go for the 1000 point mark this year. She hits her 3’s at a little over a 30% clip and plays well off the penetration of her point guard by finding the open spots on the perimeter.
These ladies are all capable of taking over a game with their shooting. They all have varied height and athletic skills which will determine what level they can play, but all of them are college level shooters. You cannot help off these girls or they will make you pay. I can’t wait to see them in the gym this year.
