There were multiple players who didn’t necessarily score 15 points a game but instead really made the other players on their team better. Some of the players listed below did score the ball quite a bit, but they really focused on doing their job, getting others involved, and moving the ball around. You’ll find the six players who made others better below.
Lauren Jensen – 5’10 PG – 2020 – Lakeville North HS
Jensen didn’t need to be at this Expo but wanted to be there because she loves the game of basketball. The Iowa commit and #2 ranked player in Minnesota’s 2020 class was stellar from the first tip. She scored quite a bit, like she always does, but it was her passing and willingness to get others involved that stuck out. She was acting like a coach on the floor as she was helping other players and getting them involved. Players enjoyed playing with Jensen because she was really helping them get into the best position to make plays.
Ronnie Porter – 5’2 PG – 2022 – Como Park HS
Porter is one of the quickest players in the entire state. She’s a small point guard who uses her body really well to fend off defenders offensively. She also is a tenacious defender who just goes and goes on that end of the floor. She was one of the top pure point guards at the event and it quickly became evident. Her passing was crisp all afternoon and she was getting the ball and running with it. I was most impressed with her abilty to change pace and blow by defenders. Porter makes everyone better on both ends of the floor with her play.
Kaila Youngs – 5’11 SF – 2022 – Orono HS
Youngs might have been one of my favorite players from the event. She was hitting shots from the outside, getting to the rim, and consistently getting her teammates in good spots with her passes. She is a tall and fluidly athletic wing who can play multiple positions on the floor. Youngs is a solid player to have on your team because she attracts so much attention when she is on the floor. She is constantly moving to get open and her teammates are easily able to find her for a score. Youngs is someone who always makes her team and teammates better
Kara Hoag – 5’3 PG – 2022 – Maple Grove HS
Hoag came in as someone who I hadn’t seen before and she automatically jumped out to me. She’s a nifty ball handler with the passing ability to match. I thought that she did a very good job of getting to the basket and scoring the ball but she also was getting every lose ball. Hoag is the type of player who you’ll see on the floor almost every game diving for the ball and usually she comes up with it. Look for her to have a big impact this upcoming season and be someone who has a ton of fun each time on the floor.
Adeline Kent – 5’7 SG – 2022 – Becker
Kent played so dynamically this past weekend. She was scoring the ball in so many different ways that it was hard to keep track of. She had one sequence where she made a jumper and then laid it in two trips in a row followed by a corner three. Kent was scoring the ball at a high rate but she was also racking up the assists. Kent was one of the top performers at the event this weekend and she made every single player around her better. She’s a smart player who spaces the floor really well which led to some easy baskets for teammates.
Brigid Boyle – 6′ SF – 2021 – St. Agnes
Boyle is a loose cannon on the floor. She has a ton of flair to her game and goes about her play in a calm and collected manner. You wouldn’t think that she impacts the stat sheet a ton until you look at it after the game. This weekend she was getting others involved, making good passes to teammates, and scoring the ball really well. She’s a vocal leader defensively as well allowing her to help her team turn turnover into easy points. I was thrilled with the way she helped command her team on both ends of the floor. Boyle had a stellar Saturday.
