The Angela Dugalic’s. Darrione Rogers’, and Halle Douglass’ of the world aren’t going to sneak up on anyone, but there are still a ton of talented players out there who aren’t getting the same kind of recognition.
Let’s take a look at some of those players.
Jenna Badali, Mother McAuley:
With Mother McAuley losing four starters from their state runner up team, Badali is going to have to step up in a big way. Luckily for the Mighty Macs, Badali is one of the best scoring point guards in the state. Expect the Lewis commit to put up some big numbers as the focal point of the offense.
Kayla Henning, Evanston:
It feels a little strange to put Henning on this list after her prolific sophomore season, but an ACL injury and the emergence of Jayla Turchin, and Ambrea Gentle has kept Henning a bit out of the spotlight.
Despite not putting up huge numbers for Evanston last year, Henning is the player that really makes the Wildkits go. She is an excellent ball handler, and runs the point extremely well for an extremely high tempo offense. Expect Henning to make some noise this season.
Lindsay Blackmore, Geneva:
After winning back to back state championships, Geneva took a step back after being hit hard by graduation.
One of the bright spots from last years squad was Lindsay Blackmore, a do-it-all forward with a scorers mentality. Geneva has a talented group of underclassmen with the potential to make a playoff run if things go right, and Blackmore is the center piece to making that run happen.
Lindsey Rogers, Benet:
Lost in the shuffle of some of the bigger names that are associated with Benet, Rogers will have a much more expansive roll this year due to graduation.
Rogers can score with the best of them, and with much of the attention focused on Brooke Shramek and
Emily Klaczek, Fremd:
Another point guard who doesn’t necessarily put up huge scoring numbers, but her ability to control the game on the offensive and defensive end.
Extremely physical, Klaczek is a matchup nightmare for opposing guards and fits in perfectly for the style of offense that Fremd wants to run.
