Today we highlight some of the best defenders in the 2022 class. Prospects could specialize in perimeter or post defense, we will be covering both styles of defense.
Kennedy Basham 6’6 2022 F Pinnacle
Basham stands at 6’6 and has incredibly long arms. She has the ability to block a ton of shots and I wouldn’t be shocked in the slightest if she leads the state in blocks next season. If Basham can add some footspeed and strength, she will elevate herself to an even better defender!
Trayanna Crisp 5’7 2022 G Millennium
Crisp is very strong, physical, and fast. I don’t know how you attack her offensively. She is quick enough to cut you off and there’s no way that you’re going to bully her to get into the paint. She has a rare combination of size and speed that makes her a really great defender.
Sierra Mitchell 6’1 2022 F Peoria
Mitchell stands at 6’1 and is really athletic. She is what I call a ball hawk, meaning she actively looks to block shots. Some players block shots when the opportunity presents itself and some players create opportunities to block shots. Sierra Mitchell is definitely a ball hawk.
Kam Rhodes 5’6 2022 G Sabino
I really like Rhodes defensively. I think she may be looked at and recognized for her offensive efforts but she is such a smart player that she can play really solid perimeter defense. She is really quick and as I said, very smart. This allows her to get a ton of steals on the perimeter.
