The two teams, both with a lot of firepower back, met in the regular season on Saturday in Xenia, and FM withstood an early fourth quarter run by Legacy and escaped on the road 38-37 to remain unbeaten on the season. Legacy Christian suffered their second consecutive defeat for the first time since prior to the 2017 season.
Game MVP
Emma Hess Emma Hess 6'0" | SF Legacy Christian Academy | 2021 State OH hit some big shots all morning long, and finished the game with 22 points to earn the game Most Valuable Player. Hess drove to the rim to score, buried some big threes, and showed why she is considered to be a solid college prospect. Hess is a junior at Legacy Christian and is ranked #13 in the latest PGH Ohio rankings that were updated in October.
Play of the Game
With 1:27 left in the game, FM senior Corina Conley Corina Conley 6'0" | C Franklin Monroe High School | 2020 State OH finished off a play around the rim that gave the FM Jets a one point lead and stopped Legacy from pushing their lead at the time to three points. After Hess gave Legacy the lead again with just over a minute left, Conley scored the eventual game winner for the Jets.
Offensive Performance
I would have to give this to Hess as well. There were a total of seven times that Legacy took the lead throughout the game, and six of those times, Hess scored the basket to give them the lead. She was clutch throughout the game and came up big when she had the opportunity.
Defensive Performance
Chloe Brumbaugh did a great job on all-area guard Kathleen Ahner Kathleen Ahner 5'8" | CG Legacy Christian Academy | 2021 OH . Chloe did a good job containing Ahner, and Belle Cable came came in and they combined to contain her. Brumbaugh controlled the Jets defensively down the stretch.
Best off the Bench
One big shot that stuck out came off the bench when Chloe McGlinch buried a three late in the fourth quarter. They needed shooter on the floor and she went into the game and 30 seconds later, she knocked down the three.
Intangibles
Without a doubt, the Jets clearly remember what happened in their last meeting, and had some relief off their shoulders when the game was over. They were focused, had a plan and it worked. They are a very respected perimeter team, and have three-point shooting threats all over the court, hitting four in this game.
Under the Radar
Belle Cable is a kid who often gets overlooked due to the well-deserved attention Conley receives, and Cable quietly gets the job done. She had ten points in this game, and hit two threes in the first half. That is her strength, solid perimeter shooting from behind the arc. The senior is their most consistent perimeter shooter, and hit one early in the game when the Jets had their biggest lead of the game 5-0.
Comeback Player
In only her fourth game back after almost a year off recovering from ACL surgery, FM senior Audrey Cable is slowly showing progress. She is battling through the pain and mental aspect of her recovery, but she showed a lot of positive things during her time on the floor. She did a good job with her movement and defensively she is getting stronger.
Key Rebounder
Conley was strong on the boards defensively, and did a good job controlling the securing rebounds for the Jets. I have mentioned before how has game has evolved into not being a true post player offensively and more of a wing with good range. Defensively, she can change the game and
Quote of the Game
“I didn’t say much in pregame, but I taped up our district runner-up medal from last year in the locker room and it fired them up,” FM coach Abbey Moore said.
