Etiwanda 53 vs. Corona Centennial 37
Etiwanda was primed and ready to take on Corona Centennial in this match up, they are normally known as an aggressor on the defensive end, but so is Corona Centennial. This game will come down to how well each teams guards on the defensive end of the floor, the team that has the most defensive success will be the victor in our opinion. Here we go, lets see who is going to shock us and prove us wrong in this monumental match up of schools from the Riverside areas. In this game, Etiwanda was the victor because of the size inside with Jessica Peterson and Daisia Mitchell. With the likes of Jayda Curry and Trinity San Antonio made for an exciting game, but when it comes down to strategy, I have to give the edge to Etiwanda, the discipline of the defensive mindset is the key to wins.
Top Performers for Etiwanda:
2020, 5’7, PG, Joy Campbell is a scrappy point guard with some wiggle to her game, she is poised and confident on the floor, never gets shook out there. Her IQ is high, her passing ability is above average and she is one of the most skilled points in the state. Her midrange pull up is great, her three ball is good as well, this kids floater is money everytime she shoots it on the run. Definitely a D1 prospect in our opinion.
2020, 5’8, PG/SG, Breanne Ha is crafty and a pure shooter from all three levels on the floor, she shot that ball like it was easy. She also showed alot of patience and poise on the floor, Breanne cannot be shaken as well like Campbell, both in the backcourt make for a great matchup problem for any opponent. Breanne has committed to Cal Poly Pomona and she is gonna do great there.
2021, 6’4, PF, Jessica Peterson is a load in the paint, she is pretty much a matchup problem for any post player in high school as we know it. She can seal you and finish down low, she can turn and score with the left and right hand, is also good at turning and hitting the midrange out to about 15 feet. Jessica holds about (5) Offers right now from D1 schools.
2022, 5’11, SF, Daisia Mitchell is an issue on the floor as well for the opposing team, she has the ability to handle the ball, shoot it and slash to the rim to finish thru contact. She has great size and uses it against her opponents at every waking moment, Daisia is special, she is still young and her game is just starting to develop, she will be force to reckon with the rest of this season and the rest of her high school career.
Top Performers for Corona Centennial:
2021, 5’7, CG, Jayda Curry is a dynamic player on the floor, she is explosive, she is skilled, she is fearless and not afraid to put work in on anyone. She shoots the three ball with consistency and is a threat to make one every time she shoots the ball, definitely one of the better threats on the floor in any game. Jayda will have to become more of a point guard in the near future to play effectively at the next level, this is something I know she is capable of, less scoring and more distribution for her teammates at the next level. Definitely a mid-to-high major player in our opinion.
2021, 5’8, SG, Trinity San Antonio is a great utility player and I mean that in the best compliment possible, she is an excellent defender, ball stopper in our opinion, she is a skilled guard with some athletic ability. We would put her on the best offensive player there is on the floor, she will contain her, she has proven that in the summer. Her shooting ability is improving and she is getting more consistent with her three ball and we believe she will improve with that this season. Trinity already has (3) or more D1 offers in her bag.
2023, 5’3, PG, Syndi Summers is an entertaining young gun out on the floor, you can tell she is not scared and she has never seen a shot she is afraid to take, that is meant as a compliment. She is developing as a point guard and I expect her to pick up those skills this season and then take over the reigns next season as the primary point guard. As of now, Corona plays a 4 out system and everyone handles the ball and shoots it. She will thrive in a much more defined role as a younger player next season, still love to watch her play all the time.
