Sabino came out quickly taking a double digit lead. This was in large part to Kam Rhodes and Kam Doty knocking down a couple 3’s out the gate.
Chandler didn’t fold and came back with their own scoring. The game was very close throughout the rest of the game until late in the 4th, when Sabino’s Kiya Dorroh knocked down 2 3’s in a row, sealing Sabino’s victory.
Early in the game, Dorroh struggled to guard Mya Peat due to her overall size. However, Sabino changed the flow of the game and really sped them up, making it difficult for Peat to stay on the floor.
The Sabino press once again slowed another great scoring team down. The only girl I felt wasn’t affected by the press was Victoria Perez. Perez seemed like she could break the press on her own but the team looked very hurried after.
Perez also had some highlight worthy assists to Mykah Anderson and did a pretty solid job guarding the D1 talented guards of Sabino.
Victoria Mason and Mykah Anderson led the way in scoring for Chandler. Both girls knocked down a couple 3’s and Mason came up with a ton of steals.
For Sabino, Rhodes and Doty led the way offensively. They kept Sabino in it and let Dorroh almost play clean up at the end. Dorroh struggled offensively early on but eventually finished with 14 points.
I think it was a big time statement and showing for Sabino. This week showed that they could hang with the top teams in any division and should be taken seriously for the title of top team in state.
