Chandler and Chaparral were going back and forth all game until Chandler eventually pulled away in the 4th quarter and secured the win.
Chandler was led by the scoring ability of Mykah Anderson (5’7 2020 G) and Amara Wilson (5’2 2020 G). These two girls knocked down a combined 5 3’s out of the half and continued making scoring plays left and right.
Victoria Perez (5’2 2020 G) was an absolute general out on the court. She doesn’t often look for her shot, she usually looks to facilitate and get her teammates open. She has elite play making ability and court vision. She had 5 steals and knocked down an open 3. Overall, I was just impressed with her leadership and passing ability. Perez is also very speedy and she was able to play really solid defense on 5’9 2020 G Anna Ostlie.
Leading the way for Chaparral was Anna Ostlie. She looked really strong and often got on the boards and got to the basket pretty much whenever she wanted. She looked a little uncomfortable when guarded by the much faster Perez but Ostlie being the smart player that she is, capitalized on her opportunities well.
What impressed me most about her game today was her effort on the boards. Not often do you see a point guard crash on the boards and lead both teams in individual rebounds.
Even though Chaparral went home with a loss, I don’t think it’s anything to hang their heads about. Chandler is a very good team. Chaparral’s Jess Finney seemed to be struggling a bit, everybody has off days, so that definitely played a factor into the loss as well. In addition, Chandler played one heck of a game. They were getting a ton of steals off of their press and defense looked all around solid. Very excited to see what this squad can do this season.
