Maddi Fulks, 2020, Bethesda Christian & Rachel Shafer, 2020, Bethesda Christian
These two make for a great duo in 1A because Fulks (21.4 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 5.5 apg, 5.0 spg) is a combo guard who can score with the best of them. Shafer (15.1 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 4.4 apg, 2.8 spg) is very skilled all-around, she has great size and can use it to her advantage by shooting over defenders. Fulks is not just a scorer, as she has excellent court vision who sets her teammates up for scoring opportunities.
Rylee Dowers, 2020, North Vermillion & McKenzie Crowder, 2021, North Vermillion
North Vermillion improved drastically from 2018 to 2019 and it was due to the contributions of these two players. Dowers (13.2 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 4.0 apg, 4.0 spg) has good speed and is also rather athletic as well. She can attack the basket and finish through contact, which is what makes her tough to defend. Dowers solid handles allows her to create shots not only for herself, but also for others. As for Crowder, (14.1 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 2.8 spg) I like that she can play on both ends of the floor, which is important in today’s game. She is a wing player who can shoot from behind the arc and also get into the lane as well.

Mercedes Rhodes, 2021, Oregon-Davis & Katie Sauer, 2020, Oregon-Davis
Rhodes is a wing who can pretty much do it all. Last season she averaged (22.8 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 4.0 apg, 5.0 spg.) The five steals per game is what really stands out to me because that means she is really disruptive on the defensive end of the floor. With her scoring and defensive prowess, this makes Rhodes a very quality two-way player. Sauer (12.0 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 6.8 apg, 4.7 spg) is small in size, but she is one of the most important players to her team and it shows in the results. She is a senior now and has displayed great attributes over the years, that has led to team success. The point guard position is the most important position in basketball, and Sauer is someone you want at the helm.

Isabella Reed, 2021, Greenwood Christian & Alexis Mead, 2020, Greenwood Christian
Reed (21.1 ppg, 15.1 rpg, 3.5 apg, 2.4 spg) has shown to be a very versatile forward, but one thing that stands out is her ability to rebound the basketball. Being in the right position and outworking everyone down low isn’t usually the job that everyone wants to do, but Reed has embraced that role. Averaging 15 boards a game is very impressive no matter what class you play in. Mead (15.6 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 4.3 apg, 2.3 spg) is a great knockdown shooter. Defenders will want to get a hand up and close out on this shooter, because if they don’t it’s a bucket.
Chloe Jolloff, 2021, Lakewood Park Christian & Taylor Gerke, 2022, Lakewood Park Christian
One of the top point guards in the class of 1A is Chloe Jolloff, (13.4 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 5.2 apg, 2.5 spg) who can control the entire game. Jolloff does a nice job in deciding whether it’s time to score or setting up others. She is terrific on both ends of the floor and is good rebounder as well. Gerke (14.4 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 2.0 apg, 2.2 spg) is looking to take her game to even greater heights after a strong freshman campaign. One of the things that impresses me the most is that she was able to step right in, and lead the team in scoring her first year.
Skylie Lutz, 2022, Union City & Mariah Claywell, 2022, Union City
Both of these girls are young, but they are going to be focal points for Union City, yet again. Lutz (15.7 ppg, 3.7 rpg) is a wing who can do multiple things on the basketball court. She is able to score from all 3- levels, and also does a nice job of working inside to her hands on rebounds. Claywell (13.2 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 2.7 apg, 3.0 spg) is the other leading scorer, who is also capable of playing the passing lanes and coming up with steals.
Kaybree Oxley, 2022, Tecumseh & Chloe Holder, 2020, Tecumseh
Oxley (16.7 ppg, 9.0 rpg, 2.6 apg, 5.3 spg) is only a sophomore, but she is already a very good player. Whether she plays down low in the paint or on the perimeter, Oxley is going to be able to score. The fact that she can do both of these things doesn’t bode well for defenders. Holder (13.5 ppg, 7.1 rpg) can do a lot of the same things, which is what makes her and Oxley make a dynamic front court duo for their team. It’s going to be tough for others to outplay these two on the interior.
