So, I took a look back at those articles, and I’ve attempted to predict what this season might hold in Class 4A. Taking some ideas from college preview magazines of years past, I’ve assembled this article with a variety of things, like a preseason team poll, preseason awards, and preseason all-state teams.
PRESEASON POLL
The preseason poll is based solely on how I think teams will stack up this season in Class 4A. Past success isn’t meaningless, but year-in and year-out rosters change, and teams can slide up or down the scale in terms of competitiveness. When I looked at all the rosters of Class 4A teams, I came up with approximately 15 teams who I could legitimately see making a run to Bankers Life Fieldhouse if things work out their way. So, trimming the list down to a Top-10 was incredibly difficult.
Crown Point looks to duplicate the outstanding season they had one year ago, except this time they’d like to make that trip to Indianapolis. With minimal losses and a new addition, that is very possible. After two State Championships at the Class 3A level, Northwestern now moves to Class 4A and will likely still strike fear into opponents for one more season behind their two Big Ten signees. Lawrence North reaching the State Finals was a nice story last season, but this time around they are more the hunted than the hunter, plus they return nearly everyone of note. After capturing the 2019 Class 4A State title, Hamilton Southeastern graduated three starters and four key rotation players, but the return of their star Senior will keep them at the top. Homestead continues its prowess in Northeast Indiana, and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. North Central, Brownsburg, and Carmel have talented, deep rosters in Central Indiana, Penn returns a lot from a 1-loss team in Northern Indiana, and Jeffersonville should be the team to beat down by the Ohio River.
PGH Indiana Class 4A Preseason Top-10 (2018-2019 record):
1. Crown Point (28-1)
2. Northwestern (27-3)
3. Lawrence North (22-7)
4. Hamilton Southeastern (27-1)
5. Homestead (25-4)
6. North Central-Indianapolis (19-7)
7. Penn (25-1)
8. Brownsburg (20-4)
9. Carmel (14-11)
10. Jeffersonville (14-10)
PRESEASON AWARDS
These preseason awards are an attempt at honoring girls who I think stand out in Class 4A. There are multiple candidates for each award, and every award is easily debatable, but I chose them based on who I thought filled the description the best. Each award is determined through different criteria, as some awards are based primarily on opinion, while others are decided with a heavy influence from statistical merit.

PRESEASON ALL-STATE TEAMS
Like the preseason awards, this was another attempt to honor girls who stand out in Class 4A. These teams were selected based on equal parts talent, skill, potential, statistical accomplishments, and team accomplishments. While we can debate who should be where, I do think it’s easy to understand why each of the girls listed below were at least selected to be honored.
