In some other regions of the country, speedy guards are the regular, but in the Pacific Northwest, it is more hit or miss. This group just so happens to have the collective speed that college coaches love at the guard positions. Here are just some of the fastest the state has to offer.
Prospects with Speed:
2023 5’9 CG Nikole Thomas (Kamiakin HS) – Nikole has about as much top end speed as anyone I have seen for the state. She strides well and has a quick first step on top of that. She is capable of playing either guard position at this stage, but I see her ultimately developing into a point guard that can defend either guard position. She already has some Division 1 interest. Nikole is projected as a starter for Kamiakin in her freshman season.
2023 5’9 PG Mjracle Sheppard (Eastside Catholic HS) – Mjralce is a good mixture of speed and power from the guard position. She is capable of playing the one or two, but projects as a point guard in college. Mjralce is a slashing scorer that can break her man down one on one and she has the handle to break free of pressure. She has the interest of many High majors and she should also be a starter for her school team this winter.
2023 5’5 PG Malia Samuels (Eastside Catholic HS) – Malia is one of the smaller players on this list, but she is as shifty as they come. She moves quick laterally on defense and can be a real pest on that side of the ball. She can make change of direction moves going full speed and plays well in the open floor. Her jump shot has also really developed in the last year, making her that much more difficult to guard. Malia should start in the back court with Mjracle for Eastside Catholic. *Feature image
2023 5’7 PG Kay Jackson (Eastlake HS) – Kay is just what Eastlake ordered from the point guard position. The team has been well above average at the 3-5 positions, but the boost at point guard from Kay should prove to be helpful for the defending 4a state champs. She has a good first step and she is a pass first point guard. Talent wise, I could see Kay Jackson starting at the point for the returning state champs.
