He put together showcase games for all ages from sixth graders to seniors and it went off without a hitch in our opinion. We showed up after a nice sunny days ride up from Los Angeles and we got there right before the Freshman game was about to happen, we strapped in at the scorer table and watched some good basketball coming out of San Diego, California. First up, we witnessed what San Diego had to offer from the Freshman class and it was pretty good, here are some names that impressed us why we watched:
2022, 5’11, WF, Cathedral Catholic San Diego HS, Taryn Johnson is a beast in every sense of the word, she is physical, she is strong, she is dominant and know one had an answer for her yesterday as we watched. She ended the game with 27pts and they deemed her the Queen of the Court for the Sophomore Game with no questions asked. Taryn is super-athletic, runs the floor like a stallion, handles it well, which is an improvement from earlier in the club season, she is now pushing the ball like a point guard. She showed her drive to the rim and finish thru contact as well as her much developed three pointer she hit yesterday, we were really impressed by her play.
2022, 6’2, SF, Mission Hills San Diego HS, Amber Schmidt is quite the player as well, she was deemed MVP of the Sophomore Game and she proved that many times on the floor yesterday. Amber is a wing forward with a nice jumpshot from the three line, she hit about 4 threes in the time we watched her yesterday, which was very surprising to us. Amber is also physical in the paint and rebounded the ball well for her team.
Others Who Stood Out to Us:
2022, 5’8, PG, Fallbrook HS San Diego, Naiya Kurnik was a dynamic wing guard with a nice skillset, ran the floor, handled the rock well and had a great drive and kick game. She knocked down the three pointer often and we were impressed with her stroke from all three levels.
2022, 5’7, SG, Mission Hills HS San Diego, Jessica Grant was the best shooter in the building last night, hands down, we watched this girl knock down 20 three-pointers in the shooting contest and that was following 21 three-pointers in the round right before the final. If you need a shooter to come off screens and knock down shots, call this girl, her stroke was flawless and effortless, real shooter in my opinion.
