Every year, new players burst onto the scene after a great year, making a name for themselves and watching as their stock rises as the season progresses.
Over the next few days, I will take a look at some of the players who could breakout this season and become familiar with basketball fans around the Dayton area.
Today, I will look at the 2020 class, and look at a few players who you may want to keep an eye on this season.
2020 Sleepers
Audrey Cable (Franklin Monroe)
Audrey as mentioned last week is returning from an ACL injury after missing last season. She returned to the court in the summer, and is full-go and ready to help lead the Jets toward the top of the Cross County Conference. She is moving well on the court at this point, and won’t back down to adversity. In addition to making her return to the court, she has also chosen Huntington as her college choice where she will continue her basketball career.
Sa’Mill Calhoun (Middletown)
Had a good summer and will be counted on heavily for the success of the Middies. Nice, quick player with good handles. Sees the floor well, distributes or can finish at the rim. Good north-south player in transition, and uses her strengths to make her a better player. Pressures on defense, causes turnovers.
Kylie Foos (Oakwood)
After dealing with injuries and health issues for much of her playing career, Foos is back as a senior at Dayton Oakwood and wanting to cap off her career with a great year. She will continue her playing career at Wittenberg, but first she wants to shine with the Jills. Fiery point guard with good handles, works hard on defense to contain her opposing player. Good range, exciting to have her out on the floor.
Brooke Stonebraker (Versailles)
Her size makes her an immediate threat in the paint, both offensively and defensively. Had the chance to spend the summer with the Cincinnati Angels and working constantly against the best players in the nation, and her team should both pay dividends for her senior year. She has not reached her potential, but has improved with strong post moves to be a major factor for the Tigers.
Tylah Yeomans (Piqua)
A virtual unknown outside of the GWOC (and now the MVL), but she had some big games for the Indians. Uses her body well and has a nice 10-12 foot jumper. Can jump well and is a solid defender. Can close out games for the Indians. Hearing that volleyball could be her future, but wants to have a solid senior season.
