Continue ReadingWe recently looked at some of the key freshman to keep an eye on this season, as several incoming 2023 players are expected to make an immediate impact on their teams this season. After looking at some of the freshman in the northern Miami Valley earlier, today we will take a look at some of the main ones to watch from the southern portion of the Dayton area.
These are the kids who were part of the Freshman to Watch list released last weekend, but this is the only place to read more about them in-depth to see which ones will be the impact players this season.
Kennedy Gadson (Chaminade Julienne)
Incredible athlete and has already made an impact with the Eagles on opening weekend. Solid scorer and plays older than her age. Impressive north-south game, good handles and distributes the ball for the better shot.
Kendal George (Centerville)
Really like her overall game. First of all, she is a gifted offensive player from the perimeter, and her game will just continue to grow. Smart player on the court with a good basketball IQ. Kendal (pictured above) has solid handles and is playing with some great confidence. Good length and is a high level defender.
Sophie Huffman (Wilmington)
A guard who has the tools to be a bigtime contributor right away with the Hurricane. Loves to push the ball in transition and is a good north-south type of player. Can run for days and will be one of the top offensive threats this season at Wilmington. Great handles, just looking to gain some varsity experience as the season progresses.
Madalyn Mahoney (Middletown Fenwick)
A solid guard with deep range for the Falcons, she looks to make an immediate impact this season. One thing she brings to the table is her perimeter shooting from deep range. She should mix in nicely with the experienced players back such as Emily Adams and Hannah Beckman. Mahoney is one of a couple of freshman who could make some noise early in the season, which includes Caitlin Augspurger.
Riley Hodson (Valley View)
As I mentioned earlier in the preseason, she has a very solid game already as she heads into the high school scene. One thing she has going for her, with the talent that the Spartans have coming back, she won’t have to do more than she can right away, allowing her get comfortable at this level. Can shoot beyond the arc and can attack the rim.
