Continue ReadingLast year, Howard High’s season fell short in the playoffs after being one of the final 16 teams in the MPSSA State Championships. This year, Howard looks to take another leap. Howard looks to achieve this by leaning on their top 3 players once again this year. Lets take a look at seniors Marisa Sanchez-Henry, Camille Malagar, and Anii Harris.
When you see Marisa Sanchez-Henry you absolutely cannot help to be “wow”ed. Her unique ability to drive to the hole from any place on the court makes her an extremely tough matchup. Sanchez is one of those players where it is extremely hard to find any flaw in her game. She has amazing handles, a great step back jumper, excellent court vision, and is arguably the most physical player on the court any given day.
Camille Malagar is not a shoot first guard at all. In fact, it is rewarding to see a player like Camille posses all the fundamentals it takes to be a great basketball player. I’ve mentioned before how Camille Malager is the total package, a legit triple threat in the Howard County region. Funny because if this were a game of football, one could describe Camille Malagar as a quarterback on offense and a strong safety on defense. First thing you notice is her arm strength specifically during the fast-break. Camille will look up court first and her quick read ability can quickly change the turn of events of a fast break. On defense she is fearless, always looking for the steal while simultaneously looking for the big offensive play.
Anii Harris | 5’6 G
Anii Harris is coming off a great junior season in which she accomplished a number of triple and double doubles. At 5’6, Anni Harris plays like she’s 6’5. Although Howard High is gifted with some all around amazing talent, I believe the life blood of this team is Anni Harris. Think of Anni Harris as being the engine if you will. If you need 10 rebounds, she’s that girl. Need a perimeter/baseline 3 point shooter, she’s that girl. Need a great iso player, again she’s that girl. I honestly do not believe the word tired is in her DNA. Who needs gasoline when you have a hybird like Anni Harris.
