Dallas’s dynamic high schools women’s basketball is coming to a boiling point as the season nears. The amount of backcourt depth in that will flood gyms this year will be worth the late nights. Here are three schools’ dynamic duos set to make an impact on their season.
John H. Guyer suits up two do it all forwards Jade Thompson and Evie Goetz. Their versatility allows them to switch 1-4 on defense and take turns running the offense. Their combination of skill and athleticism puts this duo high on the lists of must watch teams.
Thompson’s high energy play closes passes and racks up steals that allow her to show off her transition game. Goetz’s is special in half court where her scoring acumen is on full display.
Skyline line will suit up a dynamic backcourt of Zyniah Thomas and Kennedi Johnson. Thomas is going into her junior year where she’ll mentor Johnson, the electric freshman.
Johnson is a blur on the court. Armed with explosive quickness and an ability to score at all three levels this underclassman’s stock is going to skyrocket. Thomas’ leadership will bring a dominant control to the game. Her pace shapes games and as a bigger guard she’ll pick off defenses when she’s in attack and kick out mode.
Mesquite Horn‘s Jasmine Shavers and Tralayah Washington form one of the most formidable backcourts in Texas. One is a lead guard with elite size for the position. The other a power guard with college range three point line. Their one of the most daunting backcourts in the DFW.
Shavers controls the offense, eyeing the court to find open teammates. Washington imposes her will on defenders using her strength and handles to create shots. Together they practically have endless scoring potential sharing a load that will likely land them on all state honors.
