Some of these girls are already on people’s radar, some are starting to make their way, and others are putting in the work to become a top player in this class down the road. Here are the top ten Freshman I have seen over the first few weeks of the season (no specific order):
Emma Risch – Florida Prep 6’0 G/F
She is already a household name with Power 5 offers. She has height, can shoot from anywhere, and has great court vision. Her basketball IQ is superior for her age, and we are going to hear her name a lot over the years.
Maraya Cheek – Armwood 5’5 G
She is as smooth as any Freshman I’ve seen. She handles the ball very well to allow her to get to the hoop and finish. Maraya can create for herself or her teammates with her handles and strong footwork. She’s got soft touch from inside and mid-range, and can hit from anywhere out to the arch.
Keyara Bromley – Armwood 5’10 G
She has one of the highest ceiling’s off any 2023 in the state. Keyara has a great frame and size for a guard. She can overpower smaller defenders and drive right by the bigger ones. A great shooter who can handle the rock and distribute too.
Liv Fuller – Clearwater 5’10 G/F
She is one of the hardest working players I’ve seen. Liv does not take a play off on either end of the court. She drives hard to the basket, has an improved outside shot, and can jump out of the gym. She also plays tough defense by creating a lot of turnovers with steals and blocks.
Ace Sturdivant – Clearwater 5’10 G/F
She is one of the best shooters and passers on this list. Ace can see the court very well and create with an arsenal of moves. Don’t give her space either, because she will shoot it right over top of a smaller defender.
Ava Stoller – St. Petersburg 5’6 PG
She is the best dribbler on this list, and probably the quickest too. Ava is starting to get some recognition in the area for how skilled she is. She’s hard to defend with that speed and ball handling and with the addition of a pretty floater.
Tyja Beans – Spruce Creek 6’0 W
She is the strongest finisher of the Top Ten list. Tyja uses her frame to get it to the hoop and score it through contact. In the game I saw, she crashed the boards well and had a nice shot that she’s not afraid to release from anywhere.
Zou Raine – Tampa Sickles 5’8 W
This lefty can do a little bit of everything. Zou has a nice stroke, can get to the hoop, and finishes well with that left hand. There is going to be a lot of weight on her shoulders to contribute early and often as a Freshman on this Sickles team.
Maia Lewers – Brooks DeBartolo 5’5 G
She plays on a balanced squad who shares the ball well. Maia plays cool, calm, and collected and always seems to be in the right place for a big bucket on offense. She is an unselfish piece of Brooks’ puzzle who will play a big role in how her team does this year.
Nini Davenport – Seffner Christian 5’5 G
This girl can shoot! She has good footwork and is always prepared to catch and release. I really liked how smooth her shooting motion and overall play is. Nini is a definite X-factor on a deep team that should have a solid season.
