Highland Tournament 1st Team:
Kamryn Doty 5’6 2021 G Sabino
Doty was on fire all tournament long. Her shot was really falling throughout the week and she was a huge reason for her team’s success. She also drove the ball very well, virtually getting to the basket whenever she wanted.
Kam Rhodes 5’5 2022 G Sabino
Rhodes came up huge for Sabino this week, especially offensively. Rhodes had games where she looked unstoppable. In the Championship game, she came up clutch hitting 3-5 3’s and providing a big spark for her squad.
Alaya Fitzgerald 5’10 2021 G/F Mesquite
MVP of the tournament in my opinion. Fitzgerald averaged 25 points per game throughout the tournament. Fitzgerald really impressed me with her versatility and scoring ability.
Victoria Perez 5’2 2020 G Chandler
Perez may be a shock to readers but she put in work. Perez may have had the toughest assignment of any player this tournament in my opinion. Perez had to guard 4 future D1 guards: Anna Ostlie, Ally Stedman, Kam Doty, and Kam Rhodes. Perez did a really good job of disrupting their flow and contained them nicely. She also was a huge catalyst for her team.
Mykah Anderson 5’7 2020 G Chandler
Anderson was by far the best scorer for Chandler this week. Her shot was absolutely falling all week long! Mykah has a nice cross over that she uses nicely to get space to drive.
Highland Tournament 2nd Team:
Anna Ostlie 5’8 2020 G Chaparral
Ostlie played well this week but definitely looked a little bit off. Luckily for Chaparral, an off game for Ostlie is still a pretty darn good game. Ostlie had a couple games where she got hot from 3 and put in work all week long on the boards.
Victoria Mason 5’7 2020 G Chandler
Mason started off slow early in the week but started to heat up as the tournament progressed. In the later days, she looked really solid offensively and turned in a lot of steals defensively.
Kennedy Basham 6’6 2022 F Pinnacle
Basham had a couple games of decent play and a few games a really stellar play. I thought she played really well against other bigs her size but struggled against smaller/faster bigs. Overall, Basham showed a lot of good stuff throughout the tournament, including an improving 3 point shot.
Ally Stedman 5’9 2021 G Pinnacle
Much like Ostlie, Stedman looked a little off this tournament. She still did some good things but I expect more from her on a more consistent basis. Stedman had a few games where she was really hitting her shot.
Kiya Dorroh 6’1 2021 G/F Sabino
Much like the rest of the field, Dorroh had games where she struggled a bit and games where she excelled. Dorroh came up clutch in the championship game, nailing two 3’s in a row to seal the victory for Sabino.
Moon Valley 1st Team:
Senya Rabouin 5’5 2020 G Shadow Mountain
Senya didn’t play the best I have ever seen her play and from talking to her personally, she’d agree. However, she is talented enough that off days are still productive. Offensively, she was a big catalyst for Shadow.
Dyamond Butler-Worley 6’0 2020 F Shadow Mountain
DBW looked really good throughout the week. At times it looked like she settled for some shots. However, when she put her mind to scoring, she was unstoppable. That’s the attitude she needs to dominate this year.
Sissy Paloma 5’6 2020 G Shadow Mountain
Paloma makes this list for all the little things she does for Shadow. She won’t dazzle you with high scoring games or highlight plays but you don’t need that to be an effective player. Efficiency is the name of the game for Paloma. She plays extremely good defense and makes all the right plays.
Dustee Murrell 5’10 2020 G Copper Canyon
Murrell saw a lot of double and even triple teams, as she is Copper Canyon’s only true offensive threat. Despite the tough coverage, Murrell still put up good numbers. In two games I saw, she put up 14 and 25 points. Murrell has to be one of the best shooters in the state.
Brooke Rodgers 5’7 2020 G Cactus Shadows
Rodgers looked elite this week. She has a really good knack for getting to the basket. She just needs to work on finishing at the rim a little bit and she’ll be set!
