Now that Rock Island’s Brea Beal (3x Winner) has graduated and begun her career at the University of South Carolina, the state will crown a new player next March. While the first two articles in this series focused on those players that received votes last season, I wanted to include a group of girls that will most likely be considered this time around. Here are The Newcomers:
Kendall Holmes – A 5’11’’ Senior Combo Guard from Benet Academy, Holmes was a Second-Team All-Stater a year ago and looks to help get Benet back to the State Tournament again this year. The DePaul commit is an excellent scorer at all levels, averaging 11 PPG as a Junior.
Anna Griffin – Set to begin her first season at Aurora Christian, the Junior transfer from Plainfield Central comes off a stellar Sophomore season, during which she averaged over 20 points and 8 rebounds per game. The 6’1” Guard’s terrific play with Example Sports Wolfpack this AAU season really helped take her game to a new level, earning around a dozen D1 offers over the past year.
Grace Hall – A 6’2” Junior Forward from Homewood-Flossmoor, Hall has quickly become one of the more sought-after recruits in the country, netting over 40 D1 offers. Her elite combination of size and athleticism allow her to dominate both down in the post or out on the wing with the ball. Plus shooter from outside and mid-range.
Cameron Williams – A recent University of Michigan commit, Williams looks to help lead a veteran Whitney Young team back to the state tournament. The 6’2” Senior Forward is a force in the paint on both ends. Williams has a savvy post-game on offense and uses her good footwork to consistently create easy looks at the bucket.
Kayla Green – William’s Point Guard teammate at Whitney Young, Green is one of the better scoring PG’s in both the state and country. The 5’6” Texas A&M commit wins nearly all of her one-on-one battles and can make things happen in the lane. Plus shooter from outside and crafty finisher at the hoop.
Marist 2021 Guard Sydney Affolter is an Elite scorer who looks to make a claim for Illinois Ms. Basketball this season.Sydney Affolter – A 6’0” Combo Guard from Marist, Affolter is a strong Guard that can score at a high rate. Her strength is tough to match up against for most defenders, giving her plenty of opportunities to score in the paint. She can also light it up from deep consistently. Holds nearly two dozen D1 offers.
