Going through my opening day notes at the Texas Invitational, I had a chance to catch more teams and players from the D2 side and here are some of the standouts
Amanda TurpinUNSIGNED
Amanda Turpin-guard (Cy Fair) the talented senior is listed among my Top 100 plus and she’s one of the best long ball shooters in the state and has been since middle school. Still unsigned, which is mind-boggling to me, the whole system is becoming zanier than ever because she has unlimited range and lives for the pressure shot plus she delivers
Moyo Orudami
Cy Woods duo
’20 Morgan Livesay and ’21 Moyo Orudami are a formidable scoring duo for the Lady Wildcats and both bring a little something different offensively. Livesay is a shooter that plays within herself and can create her shot under pressure. Orudami’s athleticism enables her to do a variety of things but attacking the rim and finishing after contact are among her strong points
Sequoia Carroll
Crosby keeps progressing
I’ve seen the Lady Cougars numerous times this year, during the club ball season, in fall leagues and now tournaments and the thing that I can honestly say is that they are progressing and it’s showing on the court. So many times you hear nonsense coupled with fake stats which is why I do my own observations and Sequoia Carroll continues to show power in the paint, either rebounding on both ends of the court or finishing strong, not to mention her defense. Cortni Harris is always under control, she handles the ball under pressure, makes the right passes and hits the shot but I can imagine how good this team will be when Cortni’s twin sister Caitlin returns as they, Carroll and Kenzie Keltz are all sophomores
Kennedy FordPearland Dawson’s freshmen backcourt
Jalayah Ingram caught my eye a little over two seasons ago as I was impressed by her explosiveness, ability to play the passing lane and one thing I mentioned was her upside. When you have the foundation and I see that desire, certain things click in my head because I’m not a novice and I’m always right about talented players and since used explosiveness, she is on the verge of exploding. Kennedy Ford is the other freshmen and I can’t say I caught her before but if I didn’t have a roster, who knows. She’s athletic and attacks the basket with power, has a nice pull-up jumper and defends so to sum it up, this backcourt is going to create some problems
