Continue ReadingBishop Dwenger used tremendous defense late in the fourth quarter to stifle the Bluffton attack on Thursday night. Bluffton only managed nine total points in the first and fourth quarter combined allowing Bishop Dwenger to build a six-point lead at the end of the third and run away with the game in the fourth quarter. After an early 3-pointer, Bishop Dwenger had some scoring trouble of their own putting just seven first-quarter points on the board. It was a six-point game with six minutes left but the home team made it look easy down the stretch. The teams would be pretty even until the fourth quarter when Bishop Dwenger would run away with the game late to win 47-30. Below are seven prospects who stood out to me.
Bishop Dwenger
Carissa Weigman – 5’11 PF – 2020
Weigman was solid all game long using her size on the inside to score the ball and get good position. She looked good shooting the ball from the perimeter and was active on both ends all game long. Weigman plays with a toughness that a lot of kids can’t match. She showed very good all-around skill all game long. Committed to Grace.
Molly Ream – 5’6 PG – 2020
Ream was a blur on the court all game long. She is a fast guard who puts pressure on the opposing guards at a high level. She came away with countless steals and turned those into good opportunities on the other end. Ream showed good court vision as well as crisp passing, all things that you’d like out of your point guard. Committed to Olivet Nazarene.
Brianna Yager – 5’6 G – 2020
If you want to see someone hustle around defensively, then you don’t need to look any farther than Yager. I thought that she read the offensive player’s eyes really well and was able to jump the passing lanes. Yager was also able to collapse the defense and create good looks for herself at the rim.
Cecilia Garrett – 5’7 G – 2021
Garrett, like Yager, was all over the floor on the defensive side of the ball. Garrett quietly racked up deflections and knocked down quite a few shots on the offensive end. She has a very good frame that can hold strength and she uses her physicality well on the floor. Garrett won’t ever ‘wow’ you, but she’ll always play hard.
Maggie Cheever – 6’1 F – 2021
Cheever runs the floor really well and consistently was the first player down the floor. Even though she has a thin build she was not shy about banging around down low. Cheever has quite a bit of length and she knows how to use it to her advantage on both ends of the floor. Look for her to really start to make an impact this year.
Bluffton
Olivia King – 5’4 G – 2020
King hit two early 3-pointers and was able to get a lot of additional good looks from the perimeter. She consistently ran the floor well and got to open spots on the floor. She was strong with the ball all game long and really pushed the tempo of the game. King is someone who you don’t want to leave open in the corner.
Emme Boots – 5’9 W – 2021
Boots was a swiss army knife on the floor Thursday night as she continuously got to the rim and scored, but also hit a couple jumpers. Her defensive effort was very good as she was tasked with guarding Ream for most of the night. Boots was scoring the ball at a high level and took care of the ball well.
