They played host to multiple top 2022-2024 prospects at their most recent game versus Tulane on Sunday afternoon. The Huskies led by as much as 18 points, but suffered a really tough loss by the closing buzzer. It may not have been the result the Huskies wanted on the floor, but they seem to be continuing their effort to keep backyard talent right at home. The Huskies coaching staff has strong ties in California and Californians make up 9/14 roster slots at this point. They have one Washington grown commit for the 2020 class, as well as some more California talent.
The state’s top 2022 prospect
One key name in attendance was W.F. West High School’s Drea Brumfield. The 6’2 wing has been a target of Washington’s over the course of the last few months and she took an unofficial visit this weekend. Drea is currently ranked by PGH Washington as the number one player in the 2022 class. She has great length to be effective on both sides of the ball and she has a solid perimeter game for her height, including a soft shooting touch.
Eastside Catholic’s 2023 Crew
Eastside Catholic is bringing in more talent than the school has ever seen. There’s a reason three prospects are on Washington’s radar before they have ever played a game of high school. 5’9 PG Mjralce Sheppard, 5’5 PG Malia Samuels and 6’1 SF Imbie Jones were all in attendance for the Huskies losing effort, but Head Coach Jody Wynn and staff will be regulars at Eastside Catholic for the next few years.
2024 To Keep An Eye On
Portland, Oregon has an 8th grader that appears to already be on Washington’s radar as well. Mahogany Chandler-Roberts enjoyed a visit to Washington’s campus today. Mahogany was brought to my attention two years ago with some people believing that she would be a player to keep an eye on and sure enough, she is on the D1 scene a year before her first high school game. I will be tracking her progress over time and provide updates accordingly.
