Continue ReadingThe Bismack High School Demons were one of the better teams in the WDA last season, using strength in numbers and a staunch defense to contend for a top-four spot throughout the season. They ultimately ran into trouble in the postseason though, losing to Bismarck Century and then Williston in the WDA Tournament. With five rotation players set to return, Bismarck should be strong again in 2019-20.
GO-TO PLAYER: Cadee Rychman
Rychman was the team’s leading scorer a year, averaging just under 10 points and six rebounds per game. She’s a decent 3-point shooter and can create her own offense effectively. With five rotation players gone from a year ago, she’ll be expected to step up and generate offense more consistently and if she can, while improving on her efficiency numbers, she’ll be one of the best players in the WDA.
BREAKOUT CANDIDATE: Mandie Picard
Picard was one of the many regulars last year and she showed plenty of promise on both ends of the floor. The now-junior wing averaged nearly five points per game while shooting 50 percent from 2-point range. If she shows progress as a 3-point shooter, she’s a potential matchup nightmare for a lot of people.
SEASON OUTLOOK
The rotation may not be as deep as it was a year ago, but Bismarck has the talent and experience to contend for a top-four seed in the WDA again this winter. The defense was a huge strength last year and should be good again this year. If the returning players to collectively step up on the offensive end, this team could have a lot of success.
