Game Time: 7:30PM
Final Score: St. Anthony HS 59, Tesoro HS 34
In this matchup, St. Anthony was just too much for Tesoro, the guard play was the matchup problem in our opinion watching this game. With superb guard play from Emily Perez with 22 points, Hannah Bailey with 12 points and Drew Sharp 9 points it was difficult for Tesoro to keep up with the pace and trapping defense of St. Anthony. Do not get me wrong the talents of Katie Schwan with 12 points and Celine Castaneda with 16 points were impressive as well, but not at the level of Perez and Bailey in this game. St. Anthony is primed to have a good season this year and we will be watching them closely and bringing you news and information about players on their team. Tesoro is young and they will find their way, the talent is there, but the experience on the floor has not caught up yet. Great game by two teams and we look forward to seeing them both this season a little more.
St. Anthony High School – Top Performers
2020, CG, Kira Smith – She was a long body guard that could run the floor and finish. Did some special things for her team, set screens and did the dirty work no one sees.
2020, PG, Emily Perez – She is an aggressive lefty guard with a solid body. Did it all for her team, true leader on the floor for her team. Knocked down threes and got to the rim thru contact. She was impressive, had never seen her play before, worth watching again, coaches, she is solid.
2020, SG, Drew Sharp – She was a small framed body but really athletic guard, quick and defended well and has a nice stroke from outside. She pushed the ball down the floor and found her teammates for shots or finished at the rim.
2022, F, Alahnie Tunu – She was a nice athletic forward with a great defensive skills and relentless on the boards.
Tesoro High School – Top Performers:
2020, 6’0, F, Katie Schwan – She was their goto player and put in the most work with 8 of the 12 pts in the first qtr. Tough post player with a nice bag of tricks, did everything for her team, set screens, sealed her opponents in the paint and finished.
2021, 5’7, G, Ava Pinto – She was a scrappy forward with some game in her bag, she took care of the ball. She was able to get to the rim and finish, set up her teammates for easy baskets, was a decent facilitator.
2021, 5’6, G, Aysia Castaneda – She was an aggressive forward with some decent defensive skills, picked a few guards in the game. Was impressed with her control on the floor and speed, she was a bonefide guard with some special skills.
2023, 5’5, PG, Celine Castaneda – She was a freshman and she impressed us with her play, she shot the ball well, she facilitated, she defended and was a solid all around point guard on the floor. The fact that she is a freshman is impressive, she has a lot more ceiling in her game, she will be special for years to come.
