Robert Kelly (PGH Kansas) and I will be breaking down all the talent at the event over the rest of this week or so. Up next is a look at Team 5 from the Expo.
Aubrey Luvan – 5’2 PG – 2023 – CB Jefferson HS (IA)
Luvan really impressed me with her ability to get to the rim and score the ball. As a small point guard it is paramount that she has the ability to collapse the defense and pass the ball out to shooters. That is exactly what she did as Luvan was all over the court all day. She’s a solid defender as well, which will really help her in the long run.
Maggie Hall – 5’5 PG – 2020 – Valley HS (IA)
Hall was one of the top uncommitted 2020’s at the event. She played very solid defense as usual and was scoring the ball well. I love the motor that she plays with and a couple of college coaches noted that to me as well. I look for Hall to have a big senior year at Valley before heading off to college. She provides offense and defense from the lead guard spot.
Emily Vaughn – 5’6 PG – 2021 – GMG HS (IA)
Vaughn was superb at the showcase as she continuously was able to get to the rim and score. On a roster full of guards Vaughn was able to set herself apart by scoring the ball. She looked solid all day long and showed a lot of poise when she had the ball in her hands. I thought that she was one of the better 2021’s at the event.
Jenica Raine Lewis – 5’7 PG – 2026
Lewis was one of the top players in attendance regardless of class. She shot the ball really well and was in control of the ball at all times. For a player with her youth, it was awesome to see the game slow down around her. Look for Lewis to make waves nationally very soon.
Emari Doby – 5’8 SF – 2023 – Shawnee Heights HS (KS)
Doby was the only Kansas kid on this roster and she performed very well. Doby is a very solid player for her age and she showed why she could be among the top 2023’s in the state. I really enjoyed seeing her aggression on the floor and she looked very comfortable with the ball. Doby is a player who can play all over the floor right now and should impact as a freshman and certainly down the road as well.
Emily Dreckman – 5’10 PF – 2022 – MMRCU HS (IA)
Dreckman is a player who a lot of people in Iowa has not heard about since she goes to a small school. Dreckman proved herself among some of the top players in the state at the Top 250 Expo as she consistently rebounded the ball, scored, and played tough. After her performance, I fully expect to see her make waves this upcoming season.
Anna Prouty – 5’11 F – 2023 – Iowa City West HS (IA)
Prouty was another player who I had seen very little of but really impressed me at the Expo. She has a lot of potential within her game and can pretty much play any spot on the floor. I think as she grows and matures she’ll end up playing on the wing. Prouty is another freshman who is going to contend for playing time at Iowa City West this year.
Megan Chambers – 6′ F – 2022 – Millard North HS (NE)
Chambers was a very intriguing prospect from Nebraska. I thought she played very well and was someone who impressed not only me but college coaches in attendance with her size and athletic ability. You can’t teach size and Chambers has that and much more. She is skilled with the ball and should have a solid season for Millard North this upcoming season.
Kendall McDaniel – 6’1 PF – 2024
McDaniel was a walk-up at the event but I was very glad she made it in. She is a very skilled post player who is just a 2024. She will be near the top of the 2024 rankings when they come out in a year and she is only going to get better in that time span. I really enjoyed seeing McDaniel play and she’s going to be a problem for four years in the state.
