Robert Kelly (PGH Kansas) and I will be breaking down all the talent at the event over the rest of this week or so. Up next is a look at Team 6 from the Expo.
Mariah Thompson – 5’3 PG – 2023 – Davenport North HS (IA)
Thompson is a small lead guard who impressed this summer, and once again was very solid at the Expo. She’s a quick guard who will gain strength as she gets older and matures. Thompson was firing off crisp passes all day long and she was also showing some scoring prowess by getting to the rim and scoring. An intriguing prospect who had a very nice day on Sunday. Karsen Jacks – 5’5 PG – 2023 – Ankeny HS (IA)
Jacks was a player who I hadn’t seen prior to the event and I was glad she attended the event. Jacks was very good at the event, simply put. She showed the ability to pull in the defense and score at the rim over height and she also showed the ability to shoot the ball. Ankeny is full of solid guards and wings and Jacks is going to be part of that group for four years.
Kenna Mongan – 5’7 SG – 2023 – Cherokee HS (IA)
Mongan had a good summer and now as she is heading into her senior year she is looking to make an impact at the varsity level. Cherokee does lose talent, but they gain talent with Mongan coming into the fray. A versatile guard who can play multiple spots on the floor, look for Mongan to play a role this year. At the Expo she showed why she can play as a freshman as she scored, defended, and had poise all day.
Ravyne Wallace – 5’8 SF – 2022 – Omaha Northwest HS (NE)
Wallace was the lone Nebraska player on this squad and she showed us why she is one of the top young players in the Omaha Metro area. Wallace was tremendous on the wing at the event and was knocking down shots all day long. She was one of the top shooters in attendance and continuously got after it on the defensive end. I look for a big sophomore campaign from her.
Kyla Mason – 5’9 SF – 2023 – Xavier HS (IA)
Mason is another very talented freshman coming into a loaded roster this upcoming year. Mason will be able to use this year to learn the system and then play a much bigger role as a sophomore. I love her aggression on both ends of the floor and on Sunday she showed flashes of her talent. Mason is someone who I really like and played great at the Expo.
Regan Rice – 5’9 F – 2023 – Marion HS (IA)
Rice is a mobile forward and a member of a really nice freshman class at Marion. Rice is a very versatile forward who can play on both the inside and along the perimeter. She plays hard at all times and at the Expo I thought she really showed her ability to play on the wing. She should see early playing time at Marion this season and be an impact player down the road.
Sydney Berg – 5’10 PF – 2021 – Carlisle HS (IA)
Berg is mostly an unknown being from Carlisle, but after this event I have her firmly on my radar. She’s an athletic post player who uses a variety of moves to score under the basket. I really like her ability to rebound the basketball as well in traffic. Berg high points the ball and then looks to get the ball up the floor quickly. She has a big year in store this season.
Sydney Kenkel – 5’11 PF – 2022 – Grinnell HS (IA)
Grinnell loses some key players from last season and Kenkel is going to be among the players that will have to step up this upcoming season. I look for her to play meaningful minutes after playing in just a single game last year. She is a fluid post player who can score when needed but is also an excellent passer out of the post. She looked very solid at the Expo.
Macy Emgarten – 6′ F – 2022 – Exira-EHK HS (IA)
Emgarten was really solid on Sunday at the Top 250 Expo. She’s a very nimble-footed forward who has the ability to score the ball at the basket but can also stretch it out and knock down shots. She played really solid defense all day long and looks to be a force on the defensive end for Exira-EHK once again this year.
