Robert Kelly (PGH Kansas) and I will be breaking down all the talent at the event over the rest of this week or so. Up next is a look at Team 8 from the Expo.
Ke’Ayla Madison – 5’5 PG – 2023 – Des Moines Roosevelt HS (IA)
Madison was very solid all day long. She’s an incoming freshman who is going to see the floor early on for Roosevelt. She is a very smart player for her age and is going to be one of the top freshman performers in the Expo. Madison looked very good with the ball in her hands and was steady all day long.
Molly Ihle – 5’5 PG – 2021 – Ballard HS (IA)
Ihle played like she normally does as she consistently played with toughness and grit. She doesn’t always score the ball a ton but she is very good defensively. One of the highest motor players in the state, Ihle impressed the coaches at the event. I think that she is going to continue to improve and get better.
Talayah Thomas – 5’6 PG – 2022 – Topeka HS (KS)
Thomas was someone who I hadn’t seen prior to the event by virtue of being from Kansas. I thought that she showed quite a bit of skill throughout the entire event with the different ways that she can score the ball. Thomas shot the ball well and got to the rim at a good pace. She should have a solid sophomore campaign.
Khloe Lemon – 5’6 PG – 2023 – Millard South HS (NE)
Lemon was a player who I first saw this summer and really liked what she brought to the event. Lemon was all over the floor on both ends at the event. She was flying all over on the defensive end and impressed me the most on that end. Lemon was able to score and pass the ball at a high level, however. She’s going to contribute for a very good Millard South team early.
Katie Fogarty – 5’10 F – 2021 – Bondurant-Farrar HS (IA)
Fogarty has really improved over the past year and at the Expo I thought she played really well. She is versatile enough to play on both the inside and outside and did so at the event. I like her decision making with the ball and think that she could play with it in her hands at times. Fogarty is going to be an important piece to a Bondurant-Farrar team that should be improved.
Hannah Ronsiek – 5’11 G – 2022 – O’Gorman HS (SD)
Ronsiek is a high-level scorer and she showed that at the Expo last Sunday. She was able to put the ball on the floor and score it but she also showed the ability to shoot it. She’s a very smart player with a high basketball IQ and has the ability to play multiple spots on the floor. Ronsiek should have a tremendous sophomore year for O’Gorman.
Meg Wightman – 5’11 F – 2022 – Duchesne Academy HS (NE)
Wightman is a young but powerful forward from Nebraska. She looked comfortable in the post but I also thought that she showed the ability to stretch it out nicely. Wightman was also one of the top rebounders in the event as she continually went and got the ball off the rim. I am excited to see how she improves over the winter.
Riley Vice – 6’1 PF – 2021 – Pleasant Valley HS (IA)
Vice was a player who I hadn’t seen before and I really liked what I saw from her. She doesn’t shy away from contact and really likes to create pressure on the defense with the ball in her hands. Vice has good hands and is very good at receiving the entry pass. I look for Vice to have a very solid year after her performance on Sunday.
