Robert Kelly (PGH Kansas) and I will be breaking down all the talent at the event over the rest of this week or so. Up next is a look at Team 9 from the Expo.
Ariyana Grassity – 5’4 PG – 2020 – Topeka HS (KS)
Grassity was one of the few unsigned 2020’s at the event and she really impressed. She is a very quick guard who has a ton of poise with the ball in her hands and has the ability to score the ball at any time. She looked tremendous in the open floor with the ball and made plays happen all day long. It was an excellent day for her.
Jadyn Wooten – 5’5 PG – 2024 – Prairie Star MS (KS)
Wooten was among the youngest players in the event and she was among the most talented. All day long she was making plays with the ball in her hands and getting to the rim. Wooten really set a tone on the offensive end but showcased her defensive intensity as well. Wooten is going to be one of the top Kansas 2024’s.
Tatum Grubbs – 5’6 SG – 2021 – Exira-EHK HS (IA)
Grubbs is a high impact scorer and she showed why she is labeled as one at the Expo. She was scoring the ball at all three levels very well and she was making very good decisions with the ball in her hands. Grubbs was very good at sucking in the defense and getting the ball to a scorer. Grubbs was offensively special on Sunday.
Madison Camden – 5’8 SG – 2022 – Glenwood HS (IA)
Camden is a very solid young guard from Glenwood who can really score the ball. Glenwood will be much improved this upcoming year and Camden is going to be a big part of that. At the Expo she was scoring and facilitating the ball at a high level while playing good defense. Camden has very quick hands allowing her to cause turnovers.
Abby Welter – 5’9 SF – 2020 – Cascade HS (IA)
Welter is a tough player who makes a ton of plays within the structure of a game. She plays with a tremendous motor and doesn’t often make the wrong play. She isn’t flashy but tends to be in the right position every time down the floor on both ends. Welter plays with poise and it shows on the floor with her leadership.
Jaylin Gaston – 5’9 F – 2022 – Louisville HS (NE)
Gaston is a young and versatile forward who has the ability to play both on the inside and out on the perimeter. I really like her ability to get to the rim with the ball once she caught it in the low post. Gaston is strong on the defensive end not allowing anyone to score easily when she is guarding them.
JeMae Nichols – 5’10 SF – 2021 – Cherokee HS (IA)
Nichols is a very athletic wing who showed an improved jumper at the Top 250 Expo. She played tough throughout the day and ran with the ball well in transition. A big thing for Nichols is the development of a mid-range jumper and she shot it multiple times from that distance on Sunday. I sense a breakout season for Nichols.
Kendall Clatt – 5’11 SG – 2021 – Indianola HS (IA)
Clatt once again played really well. She is one of the top scorers in the 2021 class and she has continued to develop her athleticism and strength. Clatt shot the ball well and was able to dictate the pace of the game from an off-ball spot. Clatt has continued to elevate her game and will only keep improving. She was one of the top players at the Expo.
Madison Vosberg – 6’1 C – 2022 – Mill Valley HS (KS)
Vosberg is a very solid post presence for her age and she doesn’t let anything past her in the paint. Defensively she is a little better right now but as she continues to mature she’ll get better on the offensive end. She does have the skill and the ability to score on offense as we saw at the Expo, however. Look for Vosberg to develop into a very good player.
