Robert Kelly (PGH Kansas) and I will be breaking down all the talent at the event over the rest of this week or so. Up next is a look at Team 13 from the Expo.
Amaya Davison – 5’4 PG – 2022 – Des Moines Roosevelt HS (IA)
Davison is a quick point guard who ses the floor really well but she can also sore the ball at a high level. At the Expo she showed that her outside shot has gotten better and I think that is going to be a huge part of her game. Davison was one of the quickest guards in attendance and she had multiple runouts in transition leading to easy scores. She’s going to be a main contributor for Roosevelt this year and could lead them to big things.
Maggie Wilkins – 5’6 PG – 2021 – Knoxville HS (IA)
Wilkins is a big of an unknown in the state just because she plays a secondary role for her high school team. Wilkins showed at the event that she is a legitimate college prospect with the capability of taking over a game. She is very quick with the ball in her hands and she also has the innate ability to get the ball in the basket on command. She’s under-the-radar for now and will be able to help out a college program immensely in the future.
Anna Sandvold – 5’7 G – 2022 – Cedar Falls HS (IA)
The Cedar Rapid roster is crowded with talent and Sandvold has been one of the players that have been a little overshadowed. I really like her motor and ability to play both guard spots on the floor. On Sunday she showcased her versatility with her ability to bounce around both on the perimeter and on the inside. Sandvold had a great showing at the Top 250 Expo and you’ll see that performance reflected in the updated rankings.
Madison Skelton – 5’8 G – 2021 – St. Thomas Aquinas HS (KS)
Skelton is one of the top players in the 2021 class in Kansas and it was evident why at the Top 250. She is a very well built guard who can stretch a defense out as she can shoot the ball really well from the arc. She also has the ability to slice through the defense and score the ball at a high level. She is a smart passer and just simply makes plays all over the floor. Coupled with her defensive ability, Skelton is a proven stud on the floor. Look for her to have a huge year this winter.
Alexis Beier – 5’8 G – 2022 – Linn-Mar HS (IA)
Beier is a very solid guard who at this point is built more like a wing but she possesses all of the qualities that you’d look for in a guard, including the athleticism to play the guard spot. Beier was able to score the ball at a very solid clip from the perimeter and I also thought that she was very fluid in everything she did. She has tightened her handle and now seems very comfortable with the ball in her hands. I look for a big year from Beier.
Madison Naig – 5’9 F – 2021 – Pella HS (IA)
Naig was a very enjoyable player to watch this past summer and she has continued to play a very interesting style. She is a very solid post player who has the skill to score on the inside in bunches and I think is going to be a true threat this upcoming season. Naig impressed me at the 250 by how hard she played the entire day and with her evident scoring ability. Look for her to have a big year at Pella.
Kaliyah Sain – 5’10 G – 2023 – Cedar Rapids Kennedy HS (IA)
Sain is one of the top incoming freshmen in the state and she performed very well at the Top 250. She has a silky smooth handle and was consistently getting to the basket with the ball. Sain has a very good presence on the floor and is tough with the ball. She was easily one of the top performers at the event regardless of class. Kennedy is in good hands with her at the helm for the next four years. Look for her to burst on the scene this year.
Riley Jensen – 5’10 F – 2022 – Bellevue East HS (NE)
Jensen was a player who I had not seen before and she was very impressive at the Top 250 on Sunday. She is a mobile player who showed the skill to play both inside and out on the perimeter. She showcased quick hands which allowed her to play very good defense on the interior. Jensen was one of the most impressive young post players at the event and she showed enough good things that coaches were impressed with her game as well.
Meg Reitz – 5’11 SF – 2022 – Ballard HS (IA)
Reitz jumped onto the scene this summer as a dominant player for CY Select and she once again played well at the event. She is a very skilled wing who can put the ball on the floor or get to the rim and score it. Defensively, she looked improved and that is an area where I had wanted to see some improvement. She can now lockdown her opponent and then turn defense into offense. Ballard has a star in the making with Reitz.
